A Funeral & A Wake [Dreary Tuesday]

avatar
(Edited)

A very wet and cold Tuesday. Typhoon Verdana is in the country, and our region is affected. Despite that, we left home early in the day and drove to another town. We only came back about an hour ago.

Yongi was drained. He kept yawning, then fell asleep in the car while we stopped to pick up some groceries on the way home. He must have been stressed that he didn't pee all day and only did it when we arrived home. I feel sorry for him, but we can't leave him alone in the house, so we have to bring him everywhere we go, even if it means him being exhausted.

We attended the burial of a cousin's daughter. She left too soon at the tender age of 18 due to heart disease, which she had been battling with since birth. After that, we went to a distant relative's wake. She passed away so suddenly due to an ischemic stroke. She was only 54. Like what one of the guests said, the sky of the town is crying out of grief because of the seven deaths in neighboring places during the week.

These reminded us yet again that life is truly unpredictable. One might be smiling now, but we don't know what transpires. This was quite literally what happened to our relative. She was seen walking with her daughter on the weekend, and the next thing they heard was that she was gone.

"So let us live life one moment at a time, eat well (healthily), take our maintenance medicines if we have any, and try not to have any enemies so that we can live with peace of mind. Let's mind our own business to avoid getting stressed," another attendee said jokingly, giving an example where people argue over petty things, even on Facebook.

(Note: In our region, it is customary for guests or attendees to speak, introduce themselves, share anecdotes, jokes, riddles, puzzles, etc. That is our way of giving the bereaved family company during their most difficult time. Wakes usually last between 3-7 days, or even longer when the immediate family is waiting for a relative from abroad.)

While he might be joking, there's something to learn from what he said. Life is short indeed!

Life is indeed short, like the Holy Book puts it: "...it is like a vapor that appears for a little while then goes away." We should focus on spending each day of our lives doing meaningful things and striving to impact others for good.

My condolences on the deaths of your relatives, the death of the 18-year old is especially painful. I hope their families find the strength to cope with their passing.

That's very true, and I agree. Let's not dwell on things that don't increase our joy.

I appreciate your thoughts. We hope they will cope gracefully with their loss.

Life is a precious thing, tomorrow is not promised hence the advice to live in the moment and not take everything too seriously. May their souls be at peace, dancing with the stars, up there in heaven :)

Indeed. At the end of the day, all we want is peace, love, and joy.

An other typhoon???

Mental health plays also a big role, anger and stress hurt your body like a disease

Yes, hopefully it's the last one in the year.

You are right, so we should take good care of our emotional well-being.

Yes. Sometimes we tend to neglect our health until it's too late.

Days like this remind us how short and unpredictable life is. Losing people is never easy, and it makes us think about what truly matters.

True that. At the end of the day, how we live our day-to-day matters.

We don't know when life will end, so all we can do is try to live a good and healthy life and take care of our health at all times.

As much as we can, we should live life to the fullest because we don’t know how much time we have left.

Condolence to the whole bereaved family.

That's right. Nobody holds tomorrow as they say, so it's best to live now. Thank you Kelly.

Life is uncertain and we can't control it doesn't matter if we want to accept it or not.

That is very true. It is what it is, so we just have to make the most out of life while we have it.
