Happy Birthday Dash! 12 Years of Revolutionizing Crypto
On January 19th, at 1:40am UTC, Dash's genesis block was mined. As of the time of this post's publication, Dash is now officially 12 years old!
As one of the oldest cryptocurrencies in existence now, Dash is not only one of the most resilient, but also one of the most innovative.
As we celebrate 12 years, here are some of the ways in which we've revolutionized the crypto space as a whole.
Revolutionizing Payments
Dash has consistently been a pioneer in the crypto payments world. In 2014, we debuted both a privacy and instant transaction functionality. In 2019, we extended instant transactions to all transactions, and also implemented 51% attack protection. In 2026, we're poised to majorly overhaul our privacy function to be more robust and user-friendly.

Revolutionizing Governance
Dash is also the singular pioneer in decentralized governance, widely recognized as the oldest DAO (decentralized autonomous organization).
Since 2015, Dash has implemented a decentralized governance mechanism through masternode voting, allowing the network itself to come to consensus on governance issues. It also introduced the treasury, whereby the network directly can fund development, marketing, and all kinds of functions necessary for the network to function without external intervention.
