The 2025 Christmas Cake
This year I was tasked with making a Christmas Cake for the big day, and so make one I did.
I only started this on December 18th so had to do a 'quick one' - only managed one boozy feed.
I've only ever made one of these bad boys before and so this was only my second, and it was easy enough, great fun and a learning experience in a SERIOUS AMOUNT OF DRIED FRUIT, SUGAR AND FAT.... oh and booze of course!
Below are just a few photos of an evening in the life of an XMAS cake...
A huge amount of dried fruit soaked in Brandy for a couple of hours...
I didn't include the toothpaste!
Quite a lot of sugar...
A whole pack of butter an a little more...
6 medium eggs and 260 grams flour...
The flour also had ground almonds and a fuck tonne of winter spices in it!
And one for me!
A hearty looking mix.....
In the tin and ready to go in the oven...
Well almost ready...
I had to go out and buy a copy of The Sun especially just to insulate it...
The Skewer test...
Or rather the knife, ready to come out...
NB it was in the oven for a total of 5 hours - 2 hours 140 degrees and 3 hours at 120!

VERY happy with the result, upside down, a couple of creases, but chuffed nonetheless, this will do!!!
Marzipan and icing Layers...
The former was a bitch, maybe I didn't knead it enough first but it took me 10 minutes and a lot of effort to roll this out, i was literally sweating, still I managed to apply it with no breaks with a little help!
I didn't actually get a photo of the completed marzipan layer, it look very much like the finished prodcuct, NB the royal icing was much easier to roll out!
Final thoughts...
It turns out the family doesn't really like Christmas cake that much, but most of them tried it anyway, and I had a few slices, it's lovely!
OH PS - we're looking at about £30 of ingredients! Yowser!

My mum used to make one every year well in advance, but she didn't this year. We are not with them this time. You can never eat very much in one go, but it is part of Christmas.

Hello everyone I hope you are all good and well today in this post is some of the evidence to prove my case
If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone

Aww, I hope it wasn't too much of a bummer. But as you mentioned in the comments, it is a tradition, and as someone who is about keeping traditions alive, I can say, as long as you enjoyed it at least somewhat even if it is for sake of nostalgia, it is worth it.
