A Van Full Of Pies? Of Course Somebody Stole It...

Who doesn't love a good pie? So many different fillings, add to that the variety of pastry, the toppings...well, it's an endless realm of tasty goodness, isn't it!

(Behold! This is one of MY pies...yum)

So it was rather sad to hear that not too long ago, a Fiat Ducato filled with 2,500 handmade pies was stolen from North Yorkshire. Made by chef Tommy Banks, the van was due to transport them to the Christmas Market, where the chef had recently opened Tommy's Pie Shop.

There were many appeals to the thieves to at least give the pies out to the homeless, it ended up to no avail, as unfortunately, when the van was finally recovered, the pies were still in the van, and were damaged to the point of being unsalvageable.

Tommy and his team have managed to keep the pie shop going despite the theft, so we hope they don't encounter any other misfortune in the run up to Christmas.

Now, if Ripon is a bit too far East for you to go for a pie, you might want to try one of our favourite places - Higginsons in Grange-over-Sands. They make the most amazing pies! Even Adam Richman from "Man vs Food" likes them.

So what is your favourite pie? I hope that you wouldn't go as far as grand theft pastry, but it will be interesting to hear what you like.

Thank you all, and enjoy!
Annabelle 😊

I love a pie, where to start ...

So sad Tommy's pies were damaged, what a waste.

Totally agree with you, @shanibeer - the van was also a write-off! Flippin vandals...

What pie is your favourite?

I couldn't decide 😂
I just love a bit of pastry!
I suppose what I eat most often these days is home-made vegetarian pasties, like Cornish pasties but with mushrooms instead of meat. I've got plans for a potato, leek and broccoli pie in my immediate future 😍.
I love fruit pies, too, especially plums with a very short crumbly short crust pastry.
I like the pie shops further north - meat and potato would be a favourite.
Blimey, you've set me off now!

I'm hankering for a pie now, too @shanibeer! For fruit pie, it's got to be apple! Personally, I prefer meat and poultry pies, but Ben's favourite is a cheese and onion pie.

Have you ever tried a steak and kidney pudding? Not technically a pie, but it's a firm favourite here in the UK.

Thank you,
Annabelle

I love steak and kidney pudding!
I was delighted to find a local pub has them on the menu: delish, too!
I'm more apple crumble than apple pie, not that I'd turn one down, mind 😂

Oh you've nailed it, @shanibeer - apple crumble absolutely rocks! We've got some late Autumn apples left, so I'm going to try and make a crumble over Christmas.

That's a shame. Crooks tend to spoil whatever they touch.

I don't eat meat, but there are some good veggie pies out there these days. Good pastry is hard to beat.

You've nailed it, @steevc - and it's so annoying.

A good cheese and onion pie is delicious.
