An evening of Pratchett
Last night we were at The Stables in Wavendon (near Milton Keynes) for a show by Marc Burrows about one of our (and his) favourite authors Sir Terry Pratchett (RIP).
Marc's show is about his love of the books and also about the man behind him. He knows his stuff having written a biography. He had lots of insight into this amazing man who was the biggest selling author in the UK for many years despite being dismissed by the snobbish critics who may not consider fantasy to be a serious genre. They miss that Terry's books are about people and also very funny. The show is funny too.
We bought Marc's book and also a collection of Pratchett writing to add to our extensive collection. You may notice that we have more than one edition of some books, but we just happened to find different ones in charity shops. Only one of them is signed from when we met the great man at one of the very early fan conventions. We are missing a few of his books that we will look out for. We do need to rearrange our books to fit them all in. There are other bookshelves around the house with many more books.
It was a very enjoyable evening surrounded by fellow fans. He did ask if anyone there had not read the books and gave one (Mort) to the guy next to me who put his hand up. His other half had read some and we had a chat in the interval. She volunteers at the venue and had seen lots of shows there. We have been there for comedy and music.
Marc is off to the Adelaide Fringe soon and then will be touring the UK. I think this was a rare occasion where an ad on Facebook was useful as I spotted it there. Many years ago I did look at the Pratchett fan forums, but have lost touch with that. I expect a lot of that is on FB these days, but I rarely look at it and I am not on Twtr. We need more entertainers to be on Hive so we can follow them here.
I saw a nice Pratchett quote for Valentine's day:

Oh this sounds like a wonderful evening! I miss Sir Terry so. I hadn't heard of Marc's book, but it does sound like a nice way to return to Sir Terry. Did you see the collection they put out last year of some unpublished (I think) early stories of his? Not as good as his later works, but certainly a nice way to return to his world.

My favourite Author by a mile, feels like it may be time to go back and re read some of the really early books, enjoyed Skys movie interpretations but books are always better.

Interesting! I hadn’t heard of Sir Terry Pratchett before, but after reading your post, I’m now curious about his works. If you have any book recommendations, I’d love to hear them.
I studied English Literature in the past, but my focus was mostly on classic authors like George Orwell, Mark Twain, and Jane Austen, etc . Still, it's always great to discover more English writers from recent decades.
Most of his books are set in the fantasy Discworld. Some of my favourites are Soul Music, Small Gods and Making Money. Most can be read out of sequence, but there are recurring characters. He has written standalone books like Nation and with Neil Gaiman he wrote Good Omens. Just see what you can find.

Some of them have been filmed with mixed results. I need to watch some of those again.
I exactly checked it when I was reading your post, I thought that some of them might have a Harry Potter's movie style when I was checking its movies list. They Look interesting. I added them in my watch list.
It didn't get as big as HP, but they are interesting. There are some animations too. One recent adaptation was a TV series of the city watch as a sort of police drama, but a lot of fans didn't like it. They changed a lot of things that did not make much sense. Terry died before then, so he could not ask for changes.
Rip to Terry Pratchett, I understand those changes in movies mostly ruin the whole story, just like what they did to GOT.

Sounds like you've had a lovely evening
Pratchett is one of my fave authors, and he is missed. The Discworld series had plenty of genuine 'laugh out loud' moments, and yet was full of sharp observations about us in the 'real world'.
My fave story arcs were 'DEATH' and the 'Witches of Lancre'. I own the full set of the Discworld including the very last one published - The Shepherd's Crown, which was the 5th book in the Tiffany Aching arc, and I've never been able to finish reading that book, because it was Pratchetts last.
I think it's high time I returned to finish it...
