White Chocolate & Raspberry Stout Review by Vocation (8/10)
It's a shit name, at least with the Naughty and Nice part of the strapline, but I couldn't resist a go on this....
I mean come on: A stout, but white chocolate? A beer, but raspberry sweetness?
Bizarre enough to try, for sure!
Looks appealing!
Defo NOT your standard stout, actually I think that's really just a gimmick, it's a most un-stout like beer!
it pours a deep amber-gold with a tiny creamy head — much lighter than you'd expect from a classic stout.
It also has an appealing aroma: sweet vanilla, berry, and that sweet dessert-like smell of white chocolate.
Tasting notes...
It's surprisingly well balanced....
Primarily you get the sweetness of the white chocolate, dessert like, but not syrupy-sweet, there's enough malty bitterness and Raspberry tartness to balance the sweetness out.
You defo want to serve this chilled!
It's strong....
It's a 7% beer, and actually I drank it over about an hour which is the way to approach this, with respect. It's not one for a night out!
Final Thoughts
I'm glad I tried this, it was delicious, a bit too full-on strength wise and too unusual for more than one at a time, but I might revisit it again in the future!
yum! I just order some white chocolate canned coffee.. hope it arrives soon.. :P
The strong ones need to be my one and only. When I drink more than the one, even with lower alcohol content, I get a nasty headache.
With lower alcohol beers, I can drink a few, no problem. No headache.
I will try a flavoured beer, but I'm less keen on some that have fruit in. The raspberries may not be too bad. I am no expert on stout, but it seems to have a lot more variety than just Guinness. I've not been to a beer festival in a while. That can be a good place to try different beers as you can just have a small measure to start with.
Oh I do love a beer fest, this was a great beer, I'd buy again!
I had a nice one tonight that I put on Snaps. I can never find that much to write about a drink.
How can it be called a stout with that color? That’s just wrong.
Chocolate stout? Fine. Raspberry stout? Okay I guess, but raspberry seems a bit more appropriate in a sour ale.
Yeah you are right, the stout is a nonsense! It simply wasn't!
The only thing it has in its favour is 7%, LOL, beer is beer not some stupid weird luvvy concoction. It is like all this fucking nonsense breweries are introducing with 0% alcohol. WTF is that all about, go drink some tap water wet wipes.
Actually it did taste pretty good!
LOL!
