OVERCOMING BAD INFLUENCE
In a world filled with different voices, values, and pressures, it’s easy to fall into the trap of bad influence. Whether from friends, social media, or cultural trends, negative influences can slowly shape our thoughts, decisions, and actions in ways that pull us away from our purpose and our becoming. Overcoming bad influence requires intentional effort, strong faith, and a commitment to making the right choices.
I have some fee steps that will serve as a guide to overcoming bad influence:
RECOGNIZE THE INFLUENCE AROUND YOU
The first step in overcoming bad influence is identifying it. Ask yourself questions like:
-Who am I listening to the most?
-Are my friends, mentors, or social circles leading me toward good or bad decisions?
-Does what I watch, read, or engage with strengthen my values or weaken them?
The Bible clearly warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33: “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’” It’s important to evaluate whether the people and things you allow into your life are shaping you positively or negatively.
SET FIRM BOUNDARIES
Once you recognize a bad influence, don’t entertain it. Create clear boundaries to guard your mind, heart, and actions. Which some are:
-Limiting time with people who pressure you into wrong choices.
-Unfollowing or avoiding content that encourages harmful behavior. You must but learn from every source.
-Saying ‘no’ to situations that put your faith and values at risk.
You know, one thing that baffles me is when someone would see things capable of making him or her compromise their standard and still walk into it, entertain and embrace it. No. you're supposed to fight it by withdrawing at the sight of those things, don't give such things a welcoming handshake else you will open your door to it.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE
Instead of just cutting off bad influences, replace them with good ones. Seek friendships and mentorships that encourage spiritual, physical, psychological growth and positive character. “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Find people who inspire and challenge you to grow in faith and purpose.
STRENGTHEN YOUR FAITH AND VALUES
-Develop a strong positive core values
-A strong relationship with God helps you resist negative influences.
-Ask for discernment to recognize and resist harmful influences.
-Be active in a faith community: Engage in church or Bible study groups for support.
DEVELOP PERSONAL DISCIPLINE
Even with the right environment, personal discipline is key. Learn to say ‘no’ firmly and develop self-control. Don't just fall for anything or everything, be principled.
BE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE YOURSELF
Instead of being shaped by the world, shape the world around you. “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deed.” Your life can inspire others to follow the right path. Every change and positivity starts with you. Do a self introspection to see who you really are. Are you a good or a bad influence? That's for you to answer yourself.
However, Overcoming bad influence is a daily commitment. By identifying harmful influences, setting boundaries, surrounding yourself with godly people, growing spiritually, and practicing self-discipline, you can stay strong in your faith and purpose. Remember, God has given you the wisdom and strength to stand firm. Choose to be a light, not a follower of darkness. Choose to positively influence and impact people.
Let your life be the reason for the upliftment of good morals in a society. MAKE POSITIVE IMPACT 💯😊
Overcoming bad influence can be a tiring effort. But I believe with the points you've pointed out, it will be possible for one who wants to overcome that influence. It's first a matter of recognising it and then addressing it, like you said. Thank you for sharing this.
