The Fine Line Between Honesty and Rudeness.
As we know and have learned, honesty is the best policy, and it's true. In my personal opinion, I would like honest people more in my life. I don't like dishonesty; it bothers me a lot. Being dishonest means that person is not paying me any respect. So, I kind of feel disrespected and worthless. I feel like I hold no weight with that person. I myself have always been honest with everything, so I prefer the same thing from others.
Also, there's a difference between being honest and being rude. For example, if someone is not looking good in an outfit, we can simply suggest that they might want to try wearing something else, in a way that won't make that person feel bad. But if we say, "You look ugly in this dress," then that's not being honest; that is being rude. I have seen many people doing this kind of thing and claiming that they are honest and straightforward, but that is not true honesty. There are different ways to present honest opinions, but choosing a rude way to confront someone is not a part of honesty.
I feel that people should respect each other's boundaries and be honest. Being honest will not only help you but also increase your respect in the eyes of others. It is necessary to stay honest in critical times because one wrong step can change someone's life. For example, if my friend is going on a date for her special day and her outfit is not suitable, then I would suggest she wear something better. If I don't tell her about it, then she's not going to look her best, and I would feel guilty for not letting her know. As a friend, I care about my friends a lot, but I always try to stay true and humble as much as possible.
Once, I was in my class with my friends, and there was one girl who was my classmate. She was sitting with us that day, and out of nowhere, she started to body shame one of my friends and said, "If you're going to stay this fat, then no one is ever going to marry you," and then she started to laugh. This situation made the other girl sad, and I spoke up for her. The girl who made the comment said, "Well, I was just trying to motivate her so that she can start her diet; I was being honest." After that, I replied that the way she was saying it was very inappropriate and that she could have done it in a nicer way. Meanwhile, the other girl cried and ran away. I was feeling really bad for her, so I ran after her.
I told her that if someone ever does this again, then she should speak up for herself because if she does not stand up for herself, then things like this will continue to happen again and again. Later on, she said that she understood and that she would never let someone else speak to her like that ever again. In my opinion, if that girl really cared for her, then she could have made a suggestion instead of directly insulting her for her weight.
