Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun: From Confession to Confusion - Review
Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun
Hello anime lovers,if you want to have a good laugh then you must not miss this anime series which is "Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun", the genre is comedy and a bit of romance. I would say comedy is their main item and romance is on the second. This anime has the potential to make their audience laugh. There's no heartbreak, there will be such situations that you can not even imagine. It has something unique that will make you fall in love with this anime.
This is the only trailer that I could find, music is playing in the background and if you look at the animation you can already guess that it's gonna be hilarious funny. The sad part is that this anime only has season 1, it was released in 2014 and now it's 2025 still no sign of season 2. It has 12 episodes so you can finish watching it in one day just like me.
Spoiler Alert!
Chiyo Sakura is a high school student. She has a crush on her schoolmate whose name is Umetarou Nozaki. She decided to confess her love to Nozaki, but he misunderstood and thought that she was a fan of his, so he gave her an autograph. When she said that she wanted to always stay with him, Nozaki invited her to his house. He also asked her to help with some of his drawings. After that, Sakura found out that Nozaki is a famous shoujo manga artist. She agreed to be his assistant because she wanted to get closer to him.
Throughout the series, you will see Sakura's attempts to get closer to Nozaki and funny scenes where romance turns into comedy.
In the last episode, episode 12, we see that Sakura failed to give chocolates to Nozaki on Valentine's Day, so her friends Yuzuki Seo and Yuu Kashima motivated her to give the chocolates to Nozaki. After a long time, Sakura was on her way to give him the chocolates, but suddenly they fell as she bumped into someone. Sakura was frustrated, but then she saw it was none other than Nozaki.
Nozaki apologized immediately, but then Sakura said that she just wanted to give those to him. Nozaki misunderstood again, thinking that Sakura was mad at him and wanted him to eat the chocolates off the floor. Without any hesitation, he ate one of the chocolates, and when he looked at Sakura, she was fluttering with happiness.
After a while, she went back to her friends. It was the summer festival, so they planned to go together. At the summer festival, Yuzuki was waiting, but she was wearing casual clothes. Sakura arrived wearing a beautiful yukata. Later, they met up with Kashima, and she was also wearing normal clothes. All three girls were together and walking around the summer festival. There were many stalls and crowds of people.
On the other side, Nozaki arrived with his friend at the festival, and they were observing other people. Since there were many couples, they talked about them. Sakura’s two girlfriends went with their partners, and Sakura was wandering around alone when she bumped into Nozaki again.
When Nozaki saw Sakura, he said he couldn't recognize her because she was wearing a yukata and wanted to have a closer look at her. Sakura felt shy because he was looking at her so closely. After a while, the fireworks started, and both of them decided to go somewhere higher to get a better view. They went up, and Nozaki climbed to a place Sakura couldn’t reach because of her yukata. Then he came down and grabbed Sakura by the waist. At that moment, Sakura had a flashback of the first time they met—he held her like that back then, just as he did now.
In her head, she also said that their relationship hadn’t progressed, but her love for him was growing day by day. In the end, when the fireworks were about to finish, Sakura said “I love you,” and the fireworks ended at that moment. Nozaki looked at Sakura, and she assumed he didn’t hear her, but then Nozaki said something to Sakura—but it was muted.
That's how season 1 ended, with lots of questions: What did Nozaki say to Sakura? Did he respond to her confession? Or was it another misunderstanding? Many questions remain, but there’s no second season. You need to read the manga to find out further details, which I have not done yet. I would have appreciated it more of it had few more episodes because I am dying to know what he said to her in the end. I feel that he also likes Sakura but it's in his sub conscious mind.

I have never seen someone so distracted in his world as this guy haha 😂 she was always giving him clear signs that she loves him and he did not know if he did not realize or was very respectful, I did not read the command, so I do not know haha but are very funny, especially the scene of the umbrella, more distracted impossible 😂
Sometimes it felt like he doesn't like to use his brain at all.
I love how you describe the premise of a romance that always ends in laughter due to misunderstandings. The idea that the protagonist is a shojo manga artist unaware of the love surrounding him sounds like a hilarious dynamic. It's the kind of absurd humor that captivates me. I really like stories that focus on everyday life and human relationships, without the need for supernatural powers. Thanks for the recommendation!
