Back from wonderful vacation

Sunday night.

The 2 weeks of long awaited vacation are over. And tomorrow I will get back to work and earning money.

But the memories will be always with me.

In the fourth year of full-scale war, I learned to value relationships above all else. That's what's more valuable than money. I forgave and accepted. We spent 10 unforgettable days in a Carpathian village, where we felt like home. When we were leaving, the owner of the house came to say goodbye and said that maybe we would see each other again after the victory. I was surprised - why so long? And realized that he hopes that the war will end sooner than in a year. And we are just living.

So. What did we do on holiday? 🙂

I spend time with my mum, my brother who is in the army now too, with my daughter, and with my hubby of course.

I read two interesting books. My hubby Nick passed a few online tests.

My hubby fulfilled his long-held dream - the three of us climbed Mount Rotylo with my daughter Natali (Gogany range, Carpathians).

1000036004.jpg

1000035991.jpg

Nick caught the biggest fish he had ever fished on this lake!

1000035905.jpg

1000036300.jpg

1000036170.jpg1000036182.jpg

We ate a lot of wild berries - blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and lingonberries. Berries picked from the bush are the most delicious in the world.

1000035727.jpg

1000036225.jpg

Got lost in mountains but luckily came back.

1000036030.jpg

We enjoyed Ukrainian traditional dishes prepared for us, with mushrooms picked and cooked by ourselves. This time, the menu included porcini mushrooms, boletus and maggots.

1000036115.jpg

1000036159.jpg

1000035749.jpg

Found wide variety of uneatable but good-looking mushrooms.

20250812_165426.jpg

We had a good night's sleep.

1000035884.jpg

We enjoyed the sun and sunbathed in the lush greenery.

1000035955.jpg

1000035964.jpg

1000035952.jpg

At night, we watched the stars fall and satellites fly.

1000036245.jpg

1000036238.jpg

Fed our neighbour's horse carrots and apples.

1000035665.jpg

IMG_20250811_145140_264(1).jpg

Watched the new inhabitants of the lake - turtles between water lilies.

Fed the fish in the lake.

1000035849.jpg

1000035669.jpg

Caught the refreshing vibe of rainy days.

Visited the local museum. Our host built it with his own hands and collected the collection for the exhibition. This is a titanic and invaluable work. It was also dazzling.

We tasted delicious local ice cream.

Enjoyed an exciting story at the local cheese factory with delicious cheeses and a breathtaking view.

1000035910.jpg

1000035915.jpg

1000035919.jpg

Went up to the meadow in the back of a truck.

1000035986.jpgIMG_20250811_144932_523(1).jpg

Walked a lot up and down in the mountains.

1000036229.jpg

Long story short - made a lot of good memories.

Hopefully, I will share more details soon.

Thanks for stopping by!

I see how happy you are to take that break. I envy the part you get to feed carrots to the horse😫 I badly want to do it but we dont have horses here in our town. "Lush greenery", I love how you simply defined the place by those words. It gives a province vibes which the place actually is. It is a good break because of the nature you are dealing with.

I am happy to read about your adventure out there and the reflections on life! I recently made it to the Carpathian Mountains, and they do have the power to make you look at your life from a different perspective than before.

Nice post! 🌻 ;-)

That's all I wanted to write. But there might be risk of taking that as a automated reply. Although, I guess bots no longer write "nice post" these days. Instead it would be like

"Visited the local museum. Our host built it with his own hands and collected the collection for the exhibition. This is a titanic and invaluable work. It was also dazzling."

Oh Titanic? Yes, I like this movie - please like and subscribe to my blog, sir!

I'm happy you all made some good memories! That place looks like paradise—a place I could disappear into and never come back. The landscape reminds me a lot of Colorado, here in the US (only more picturesque). The cabbage rolls look similar to something my mom makes but she served them with sauerkraut. Let's hope the summit goes well this week and this war finally comes to an end and in the proper way for Ukraine.

Wonderful observation! )) We use fresh cabbage or sauerkraut for cabbage rolls, depending on the season. I hope I can recommend this place for you to stay one day. I'd love it!

Ah, so having cabbage rolls with sauerkraut is typical in Ukraine? I always wondered why our family had them that way. So many of our ancestral traditions were lost when our family members came to America. I know the Germans serve them with tomato sauce, some Russians eat them that way too.

We eat cabbage rolls with cracklings or sour cream, or mix of sour cream and tomato. I am amazed how our traditions still alive in memories (and not only) of descendants of Ukrainians. Our roots are strong! )))

Thank you so much for your comments. They are always a light for my blog ❤️

I imagine they're very good with cracklings and sour cream! We had no idea this was even a Ukrainian culinary combination until this post you wrote. The roots are strong! Another detail of our family mysteries have been uncovered. : ) You're welcome @zirochka. I'm always happy when I see you've posted (and I always send a link to your blogs to my Mom in Ohio). Have a good week.

It all sounds like a very relaxing and pleasant vacation. Yes, freshly-picked berries are the best! And such beautiful views, especially after your hike. I love the photo with the three pairs of feet. You are right: relationships are what matter the most.
