Weekly Zekely -Winter Theatre, Workouts, Music and Beer!

zekely (1).jpg

A week and a half since the last not-so-weekly Zekely but it feels like a month. Looks like this post will be 50% recap and 50% teaser as I have some tales to catch up on this week.

In this edition, we are getting physical, theatrical and musical in the dead of winter.

Where we left off...

IMG_0295 (2).jpg

The month started off cold and snowy but quickly shifted to a winter thaw. Not before I had the little speedy dood out before it melted to plow through the snow. He doesn't care what the weather is but there is a possibility we won't see this much snow again this year. Hopefully it is a small percentage as winter hasn't seemed long enough quite yet.

IMG_0694.JPG

Here is how we were looking a few days ago. Still a bit of snow from a fall a couple days ago but plenty more light as the days grow slightly longer. In the 12 days past, I guess I have been to the park 9 of them so that this guy can spend an hour in his happy place. I do love the winter but I am looking forward to warm evenings here in the summer.

Hard at Work

IMG_3128 (1).jpg

There sure feels to have been some fun over the last while but it is in the midst of plenty of work too. I find that if you never stop doing difficult things, you will fight back the hands of time and live a challenging life where you celebrate the victories. At @town-crier / https://www.towncriermarketing.ca , we have fun while we work. The challenge this month was to do 3000 pushups each in the month of February! Sounds like quite a lot but not when you break it down to 100/day, even in 10 simple sets of 10. We are well ahead of schedule and looking to evolve the challenge into a more diverse rotation of exercises.

Being the Blockchain #Beerologist, dry Feb may not be in the cards but I am enjoying winter physical challenges, including training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and look to carry them through the summer.

We are enjoying a couple of our newer clients https://www.echocustomkitchens.ca and https://www.cuttingedgeconst.ca Planning the marketing of another locally owned business is always a unique adventure and learning the custom kitchen business is pretty neat! So many details, options and styles available to make one of the most important rooms in the house even better. I think I better pick up another 10 clients so I can let these guys loose on my kitchen!

More "Business"

IMG_0582.JPG

We have spent a few months with these fun-loving fellas as they planned their first annual Winter Film Festival in town. From conception through online presence construction, promotion, ticket sales and festival logistics, it has been a rollercoaster. I will have to tell that tale on the @town-crier account as this is the early celebration after their first day of films. These guys like to have fun for sure but let me show you a few of the venues the in which the festival took place as a teaser for the full story.

IMG_0616.JPG

This venue is a repurposed industrial warehouse from an era gone by. Factory 163 it the name and the makeshift theater in the main room worked very well for a good documentary viewing.

IMG_0623.JPG

I made sureto dispense myself to each venue to take some pictures of the festival in progress for review and promotion next year. In this case, a neat new wedding and events venue managed to function as 2 viewing rooms/theatres with plenty of room and ambiance.

IMG_0634.JPG

I have been in many of the churches in town but never inside this one for some reason. It is right in the center of town, seems to have had scaffolding on the outside for an age, and is apparently transitioning into a live music and events venue. The cathedral is a fantastic room and you can appreciate the size when the screen looks so little. Might have to check out the Copperlight again!

IMG_0592.JPG

Saving the best for last in my humble opinion, we have https://revival.house as an opulent dining experience followed by a cool documentary, about a Japanese fellow who dedicated his life to be Jimmy Page, called Mr. Jimmy Definitely not as silly as it sounds and it was great to see our logo up on the big screen!

Burlesque?

IMG_0711.JPG

This room may look familiar from the last picture. 1 week later and I am back at Revival House, this time for a Burlesque show. Generally not my thing, I have been called in as a special favour to bartend for 3 burlesque shows here in the last year and a bit. Another packed house for this show and it is so much fun to see people let their guards down, have some dirty fun, and push the boundaries of performance for the sake of it. Damn funny night for sure.

Music

IMG_0681.JPG

So many neat new things going on here as this little tourist town rebounds from a few bad tourism years. Seeing businesses open and emerge is great. When they partner up with a group of local music lovers who are about to hold their first regional music festival, that is even better. This is the live podcast being filmed to give everyone the inside story on the festival's origin, plans and vision for music in the region. We are just getting involved in this so more details as they arise before the big event in April.

BEER!

IMG_0658.JPG

Of course there was beer involved in a week and a bit of adventure. I am actually pretty excited to show you how I found this creamy delight, perhaps this weekend.

IMG_0559 (1).JPG

Not only did I enjoy a few pints, I finally got around to returning a couple hundred of them for deposit, to buy more of course. As a little artistic endeavour, I like to save a few on my shelf that I use as a barometer to indicate when it is time to make an empty run. So much deliciousness on 1 shelf you will probably recognize from #beersaturday posts from the last 6 months.

The sun has gone down on a couple more weeks of mid-winter adventure up here in the great white north. I am hoping for another few snowstorms to make sure we earn a good spring, more fun work with big benefits, and another week and a bit of telling tales on the blockchain.

It is amazing what you can do and how you feel when you just start. I can drop and do 20 pushups in 30 seconds and doing that a few times a day really adds up. Extra fun when you have others doing it and inspiring each other to stick with it.

I had a surgery sometime ago so I don’t know if I’d be able to do sit up again
I heard the wound can open up again so I’m being careful
Is that true?

I suppose it depends on which surgery it is and your level of fitness. Sit ups are fantastic for core strength and cosmetic muscles but not the only exercise. I would start with yoga if I were rehabbing from a surgery or injury.

Start small and the results are immediate. You will ask yourself why you waited so long.

My goodness that looks like a vibrant place to live. So much cool stuff going on. The closest I ever got to a Burlesque show was to be in the play "Gypsy." I'm glad it was fun. Your post is packed with fun.

Thank you for the beer! I live in a tiny sleepy town, and there is very little to do here - nothing like your small town. I'm jealous! I guess good beer is something even hillbillies appreciate, because we have one groovy brewery, that people come from miles around to frequent.
