Weekend Experiences - Balancing Work, Rest and Fun

Copy of sublimesunday.png

This post is for #SublimeSunday (inspired by @c0ff33a) and #BeautifulSunday (initiated by @ace108) because I am, once again too late for the #weekendexperiences challenge captained by our friend @galenkp.

This week, I have some work to do and some fun to have.

Honey-Do List

Surely I am not the only one here who gets served a honey-do list on the weekend. Mostly mine is stuff I have been too busy to do during the week, or big projects like taking down trees! I love this group of 3 trees because we planted it, it is 35 feet tall and I would rather stare at a tree then the neighbour behind in the Texas-sized house. It has to come down because it is leaning against the fence, and it robs the veggie garden of sun if the first 2 were not enough.

This is the view at the end of a couple hours of chain sawing. 2 big piles that I now must find a home for. I will either have to borrow a trailer from a friend to pull it to the dump or pay to have someone bring over a chipper and haul it away. So much branch!

I did have help for the job, mainly in the form of supervision. Little guy likes to hop up on the hot tub and say hello to the neighbours. After this arduous shift, he was raring to visit his park.

Dog Wars

I say his park because he is there so often, he probably thinks it is. Also because a couple people told me they think it is his park because he has so much fun, and seems to be there all the time. Dogwars is actually pretty soggy this weekend. Plenty of snow had to melt and it has been rainy for a couple days so best bring your rubber boots.

There are plenty of early signs of life as the spring takes its time settling in. A few species of birds are in the trees but none of them have claimed this condo as their own. The lichen is getting pretty green so the leaves will not be far behind.

Neat to see artifacts from last summer make it through the winter. Apparently, paper wasps don't reuse their nests so this one will probably just disintegrate and the next generation will build anew.

The Fun!

IMG_4790.JPG

In case you thought this was a boring a weekend, Here is the BEER! I like to post weekly to beersaturday community every week because I brew a good amount of beer regularly. Our operation is about to be put on pause for 3 weeks due to vacation so we made sure 210 liters of beer are fermenting for those 3 weeks!

The semi-pro hockey team I like to follow are in the second round of the playoffs and were playing game 5 over the weekend. It was a tough game but the good guys came out on the winning side to close out the series. Next week, the finals start and the Fighting Irish are fighting for the cup.

Besides all that fun, I am in the throes of getting back to regular Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. I have trained on and off for over 10 years and I am working hard on getting back on the on. So many damn things to do when you when you run a business and have a family. So many excuses to make and I am working on eliminating them so I can get back to training 3 times a week. This is the second class of the night when it switches from training in the gi to submission wrestling without the gi.

The sun has gone down on a weekend you would classify as high adventure, only if you compared it to last weekend's break from everything. Still, plenty of fun and productive stuff well-sprinkled with naps!

I like the way you mixed work and fun. It’s nice to have a busy weekend but also take time to relax. I think more people should enjoy nature and hobbies like you do man Artifacts made it through winter lol

Balance is key for happy and productive life for sure. One thing I didn’t even mention was a trip to the big city to jam with the band for a show we have this month. Weekend fun!
