Weekend Experiences - A bit of Everything!

Copy of sublimesunday.png

I have missed the deadline for #WeekendExperiences by @galenkp but I love to play along anyhow. This week's post can be found at https://hive.blog/hive-168869/@galenkp/weekend-engagement-topics-week-261 I also love #SublimeSunday (inspired by @c0ff33a) and #BeautifulSunday (initiated by @ace108) with no time limits and are equally as fun to follow.

This weekend felt like I left all the fun stuff for Saturday and Sunday.

First things first! The Prompt!

What is your earliest childhood memory and why has it stuck with you?

I was just thinking about this tonight as a storm front rolled through. I remember as a toddler being woken up by my dad to go sit out front and watch a lighting storm. I was tired as shit and thinking it was a little strange to be woken up but remember the wonder with each lighting bolt. I love storms and always will.

Hall of Fame!

First on tap was a visit to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame for the induction of Jose Bautista! I know what you are thinking. Why the hell is there a Canadian Baseball hall of fame and why is a Dominican being inducted. I was not too worried about it as I had a blast watching this guy with the BlueJays and a quick road trip to start the weekend won me some WifePoints© too.

As luck would have it, right in that same town there is a craft brewery with some cool picnic tables and cottage chairs on which to enjoy a little #beer on a beautiful #beersaturday. Broken Rail brews up a nice NEIPA and Blonde Ale so we each snagged a pint and some sun in the afternoon.

After a little afternoon nap, my little guy wanted to have his walk in the park. I had to oblige and snapped a pic from the same spot I have hundreds of times over the last 4 years. Summer green has settled in and is pushing in from every angle. Strangely enough, the combination of a cool spring snap, a couple dry spells and steady breeze, mosquitos have not yet taken over. It is inevitable but I am loving the relief to start this summer.

I put in some work in the yard this weekend as I generally do all spring long. Mowing the lawn doesn't make for great photos but my peonies sure do! They were just ping pong sized blooms a few days ago but are starting to blow up as they like to do early summer. I will show more of these if I get around to penning a #hivegarden post but am loving these right now. Planning on heading them this year, adding a little fertilizer at the right time, mulching properly, and splitting them in the fall as I transform into an old garden lady before your eyes.

Another garden visit was on the agenda for the weekend as a stop at Revival House is always a treat. This terrace reminds me of old Quebec and is perfect for patio drinks when the sun is shining.

The occasion was an album release matinee concert for a local band who has been playing this scene for decades. They spent covid writing and recording enough songs to fill a double album they pressed on vinyl. I helped with a little coordination and promotion and was pumped to see them perform to a live audience in a room built for big sound. Great show.

Beer

Before another trip to the dog park and an evening watching UFC 316 with the fellas, I had a shift in the brewery. My main motivation was to transfer and carbonate the latest batch of New England IPA and the West Coast experimental brew. I have them both on tap right now and enjoying each for different reasons. These kegs are actually Golden Ale that needed to be taken off fermentation and weighed in at a hefty 5.9% abv. Tasted good flat and warm so I am looking forward to tasting this one cold and carbonated!

So, the sun has set on another sublime and beautiful weekend and I hope you saw some sherbet sunsets as well.

Greetings @zekepickleman ,

What a lovely weekend....such fun filled weekend.

Your garden will look transformed with all the work you are putting into it....the photograph of those Peonies looks awesome! If you do not mind my inquiring....when do you fertilize them?

This is our Peonies second year of being in the Garden....they performed pretty well...I thought I had bought a Red one but it turned out to be Coral...oh well better luck next time, I guess...^__^

Enjoyed your Weekend post....just splendid!

Kind Regards, Bleujay

Ah thanks!

I usually wait til all the flowers are gone, cut the dead ones off, then fertilize. Make sure not to get any on the leaves and stem. Then, add a little fresh mulch to the soil to stabilize temperature and moisture the rest of the summer. Usually around the beginning of July.

Then, I split them at the first of Sept if they are thick enough and transplant the extras so they have a couple months without frost to lay down new roots.

I have been told that the most important time to fertilize is after the flowers have bloomed because mid summer, they are driving deeper roots and saving up nutrients for the long winter and next spring rebound. Good luck! Peonies are the best!
