#Beersaturday - Pints, Vacations, Brewing and Gear!

zh4.jpg

#Beerologist may be a made up title but I sure lean into it with my enjoyment of craft beers and weekly blog. If you are the same, then #beersaturday by our friend @detlev may be the place for you! So glad to have found a home with beer drinkers across the world on my favourite blockchain.

For week 403, we are visiting a local favourite craft brewery, receiving more guest beer submissions from abroad, brewing our own and showcasing some beer gear!

The Pint O the Week is usually a nice draft, enjoyed out on the town in a social setting, enjoying out community with some suds. I have been finding regular reasons to visit Jobsite Brewing lately which is awesome. I have a nice history of helping them build their computer network and currently maintain it for them so a visit for a pint and a pizza is always a tasty way of returning the business. I will visit again this upcoming week for a charity trivia night and a pint of IPA but this one is their Wrong Nail Amber I chose for a change and to evaluate it against the Amber we brew. Different and delicious!

The Guest Pint!

If you would like to send me a pic of your pint from anywhere in the world, just pop it into comments with a few details on where you are and your impressions and I might feature it next week.

This one is once again coming from @parabyte who is on a dive vacation in Bonaire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonaire), which is a Caribbean island in the Leeward Antilles, and is a special municipality (officially "public body") of the Netherlands. So you can see why he is finding Dutch beers like this Bleke Nelis dry hopped session blond from Hoop Brewery (https://www.bierista.nl/brouwerij/brouwerij-hoop) I strongly believe vacation beers are among the best you can have but "A malty, slightly fruity blond beer with a German and American 'hop-kick'" sure sounds like a good one to have after a dive!

Black Cat Brewery

For those just joining along in this 400+-week drinking session, part of my covered Beerologist designation comes from over a decade of brewing beer as well. Presently, we are working with a home brewing outfit known internally as Black Cat Brewing. There is nothing like brewing right from whole grains through to draft pints of your own with hand-picked ingredients.

Over the last while, we have been getting back into the swing of things after a quiet Dry January, and getting those keg fridges filled up in anticipation of a 3-week vacation hiatus for our lead brewer.

We have pulled batches of Cream Ale, Amber Ale, Nitro Stout, a wonderful 6.3% New England IPA, and even an Irish Red ale as an experiment. This latest one is another Cream ale and we have scheduled an IPA to be brewed the day before he leaves for Spain. 3 weeks later, he will touch down at home and we will pull it off for cold crash, transfer and kegging. The beer must go on.

Speaking of our brews, we are still enjoying the Irish Stout and I just HAVE to share this beautiful cascading work of art that is an authentic Irish stout served with nitro instead of the regular CO2. Malty and creamy and light and delicious.

Beer Gear!

When you are a #beerologist of some tenure and world fame, you occasionally get receive thoughtful gifts like free pints at breweries, special branded pint glasses for reviews, and the like. The spring brings BBQ season (although I grill burgers and the like all winter as a true Canadian) which is a great excuse to break out the grill gloves! These ones are hand made right here in town and you can get your very own at https://www.MScreations.ca Mitisha knows how to make a top-quality mitt that is safe at high temperatures but the patterns are what make them special in my mind. Especially these Beerologist ones!

That Wrong Nail Amber is like a solid pick, and brewing your own beer is just next level. Also, vacation beers is a good one, the relaxed vibe makes them taste way better

Totally true. At home, we are thinking about our responsibilities and what comes next. On vacation, we are allowed to misbehave a little and loosen up with a few beach or boat beers!

It is so easy to start too. A kit in a can, big pot, some corn sugar and a carboy to ferment. Our setup is quite a bit more complicated for bigger production and quality but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Brewing is like gardening. I think everyone should do it if they enjoy it!
