Multiple career is the goal
Hello everyone, it's a good weekend, I hope your day all doing well?
After I saw this interesting topic, I asked myself, who does not love money? I mean money? I am from Nigeria, and from the Igbo tribe, and there is this sarcastic saying that Every Nigerian wants to believe, they always say that the Igbo tribe are the people that lives money the most in Nigeria.
I am not sure why this is a very popular and interesting saying amongst we Nigerian, but one thing I know is even the Bible says that wherever a man's wealth is, there his heart will be, and this relating to being an Igbo person, we don't joke with money, because it's not easily gotten...
Very funny enough, the other tribes equally do not joke with their money, but I guess because the Igbos can survive and succeed doing anything that can being money, the major thing is just to have something doing.
There is this popular saying as well,
Jack of All trades and master of non
Well, as much as being a jack of all trades makes sense in my hearings, being master of non makes no sense in my ear.
Think of it this way, you are called to do sell your self, I mean pitch, so that people can know what you do, and then you are the so called “jack of all trades and master of non", what exactly are you going to present yourself as? Cause just after you have presented your pitch l, there a quick test that follows to support or backup all you have said, at that point, won't you want to look at that thing that you are the best at? That thing that you think no one can do better than you?
My boss called me around last year, and asked me, do you want to be a photographer or a cinematographer? I had to think hard, and I replied him, saying:
I really love photography, but I want to learn cinematography to a professional level, can I just learn the both of them? Cause I think the two of them will help me.
And he laughed, he answered me and said:
Look at me, I am a master of the both skill you are talking about, but so you think I learnt them at once? Take your time, you have started your photography journey already, why not complete it and be the best at it where no one can challenge and win you; and then when you are done, you can come learn your cinematography.
To be very honest, I wasn't pleased with his words, I mean, I felt like I could multi task, I could learn both at the same time and still learn the edits of both and my brains will still comprehend it.
I do not know why, but I guess it's because the words was coming from my boss, I had to take it slow, I had to master my craft in photography, and then after that, when I saw that I was able to stand on my own without much assistance, I knew it was time to diversify, in which I did to my cinematography. And now, I am a master of both.
An advantage of this is that your finance can come from anywhere, you don't have to be depending from just one place, I mean, having more than one source of income is very much advisable, because you cannot always be stranded and waiting, this will not always help you as a family man.
It could be stressful and distracting as well, there could be times when your attention will be needed from both sides, and you might have to choose the one that I'll pay you the most, and if you have the capacity, you can actually do both, but you of course know the responsibility that comes with, and if you are ready to face it, what are you waiting for?
If I am to advice any man, I'll say this from most honest part of my heart, never depend of just your monthly salary, cause it might not serve in all your cases, look for a way to get multiple careers where your income too can be multiple, and like I said, it might not be as easy as I am saying, it comes with a whole lot of work, but i believe that as a man, you should be able to handle somethings so that your future will thank you.
