Workrant - Lack of job planning!

So I am standing in a que at the bank and thus I have time to put together a little post. I mean... it is better for me to do this than dead-scrolling through Facebook or Youtube shorts.

I want to rant/complain about something.

It is about safety and it is about poor job planning.

If you scroll back on my posts for a little bit, you shall see that I was in the hospital recently(or if you know me, you knew that already). After around 3 or 4 weeks of being away from work, I returned back to a shitshow at work.

There were mails abiut failed Safety Audits. Outstanding questions posed to me which I could not have answered and a great number of jobs that had zero safety allowance.

Right now I should go take a sleep because I am working tonight on a job that:

  • Had no overtime planned on the job.
  • Had no crane planned for on the job.
  • Had no pre-quotation inspection and thus has no drawing, no pipe-route planned and no integration checks.
  • Had no pre-quote safety inspection or consultation from me.

And I think, my most practical response to this job card is this:

  • We will do the work properly with what we have.
  • We will work safely.
  • If there are unforeseen costs because of poor job planning, we will not take shortcuts on the first two items.

And that is the bottom line.

The workers cannot be forced to work unsafely jist because the boss failed to quote corretly.

Plan the job ahead of time with all the bits and THEN send the quotation!

I do not know why the procedure is so warped.

The above picture is a different site.

No allowance for H&S. No allowance for 2 teams of 2. They wanted 1 team of 2 to take thise fans down?

How?!

The added the scaffolding they needed was not co-ordinated right so they staff got to site and could do nothing!

And then everyone starts blaming everyone else.

Procedures and Silo mentality starts at the top of te company!

And I need to step on some toes now...

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!

I don’t like that kind of business mentality, and I really don’t. Great for pointing it out

Not a pleasant position, but I tend to do it every time. I’m wishing you tons of success

It is heavy. It is held up by a chain block though.

poor planning but props on keeping to safety regulations and ensuring everybody can return home to their families at the end of the day.

Thanks.

Yeah there is a lot of instances of poor planning.

There are also a lot of instances of poor workmanship.

I need to get stuck in there and sort people out.

Not a good situation to come back too, I used to hate coming back even after holidays.
I used to get "If we quoted and allowed for everything we would not win them"

Right. So that is saying: If we quoted for everything we would lose business.

Then do not complain when you lose profit on the job because you didn't know what it would cost!

You cannot have both.
