One of my ultimate goals with Warhammer 40,000 is to is to build a massive, if not the greatest ever Imperial army. Imperial as in Imperium of Man... all of it.. a vast army that is made up of all the different factions that you can get in the game, not just my Space Wolves.

I do have a couple of Adeptus Custodes in my collection, but I have recently comitted to playing in a Team Tournament in May and because you cannot have multiple Space Marine armies on one team, I need to switch to Custodes.

Who are the Adeptus Custodes? Well, they are the guardians of the Emperor himself! They are the 10,000 Companions!

There are only a total of 10,000 of them, while there are a 1,000 Space Marines in an ordinary Chapter and there are 1,000+ Chapters. And that was before the Primaris Founding. There are likely in the region of 1,500,000 Space Marines in the Galaxy and while Space Marines are 8-9 foot tall demi-gods, the Adeptus Custodes are in an entirely different league!

They are an army of super-elites, who fight with very small number of models on the board. Meanwhile, they are super tough and deal massive amounts of damage.

In general consider this:

Imperial Guard Soldier, an ordinary human:

Toughness 3
Armor Save 5+
Wounds 1

A Space Marines, an genetically engineered shock trooper:

Toughness 4
Armor Save 3+
Wounds 2

A Custodian Guard, the baseline Custodes:

Toughness 6
Armor Save 2+, Invulnerable Save 4+
Wounds 3

And if we look at the average leader unit:

A Cadian Castellan:

Toughness 3
Armor Save 5+, Invulnerable Save 5+
Wounds 4

A Space Marine Captain:

Toughness 4
Armor Save: 3+, Invulnerable Save 4+
Wounds 5

A Custodes Shield-Captain:

Toughness 6
Armor Save 2+, Invulnerable Save 4+
Wounds 6

As you can see, they are superior by a long shot towards Mortals and Space Marines.

It is going to be a bit of an adjustment to get used to plaing with them on the battlefield.

But it will be interesting! For the Emperor!
