Warhammer 40k - Warhammer 40k Nationals 2024 Weekend and Results!

What an amazing weekend! It was the Warhammer 40,000 Nationals Tournament this past weekend. We had 54 players from all over South Africa come through to play at Battle Bunker Paarl.

I live about 5min drive from the ocean. Paarl is about an hour's drive inland. It is next to some mountains, behind which is an escarpment where there is a rise from sea-level and a change in climate.

That said, Saturday was hot. Sunday was cooler but still pleasant.

In the picture above is Bernard the Organizer and the two Judges.

This was the morning gathering of players waiting for first game of the day.

The morning briefing and clarifying the rules of the matches.

There were tables both inside and outside, look at all these tables outside! This was amazing! It did a lot to make the tournament quieter because when you put that many tables inside then generally, you need to yell to get heard over the noise!

At lunch time on Saturday, look at that view! Mountains and a paddock with horses. Just amazing!

Day 2 was cooler, but this was the look around Prize Giving. Bernard gave out prizes for last Place, Top 3 and Best in Faction for Imperial, Chaos and Xenos that were not in the top 3.

I took a few sneaky selfies. @xenowolfza is behind me.

The winner of the tournament and the floating trophy was Ashley Clutten from Cape Town! Five rounds and 5 wins for him. In 54 Players, he is the only player that pulled off 5 wins and that is what you need to win a Nationals!

Well done Ashley!

@merenludick also joined us on the Sunday to spectate.

Myself and Marnus driving home on Sunday. Discussing our battles and how to better our outcomes.

I will make a separate post about results in detail but I got a very even 2 Wins, 1 Draw, 2 Losses. @xenowolfza got 2 Wins and 3 Losses.

When either of us lost games, they were only by a few points, so we can practice a bit more, get better and do better in the future! 💪

Overall, however, we had a lot of fun, that is the main thing that counts in the end of the day. In order to win a tournament with this many people, you need to win every single game and score very well with your Primary and Secondary objectives. Your army has to be geared towards scoring those points or else you will not get enough to be at the top.

So if the aim of the game was to have an enjoyable weekend then we both certainly achieved this! It was a lot of fun!

There shall be follow up posts and of course, battle reports!

Thank you for reading!

That's awesome! I assume wind wasn't really a factor for the outside tables? I can imagine papers or scenery being blown around if it was windy... but maybe the mountains protect that side. Looks like an awesome event! In a draw, I assume you got the exact same points as your opponent out of 100?

On day 1 there was a little wind but it only affected the other side of the building.

In a draw, I assume you got the exact same points as your opponent out of 100?

Indeed! It is extremely rare to end up with the exact same points!

💪💪💪💪💪 You just have to keep putting on more mileage onto your army/armies and play all the opponents you can think of!
