Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 162 - Astra Militarum, Field Ordnance Battery
"Open fire! Kill them all!"
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
488 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #162, I am 326 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)
January 2025 we are expecting Astra Militarum and Aeldari codexes as explained Here, so time to focus on THOSE Datasheets!
Astra Militarum, Field Ordnance Battery
10th Edition Index
Instead of a Heavy Weapons team that makes up part of an infantry squad, the Field Ordnance Battery tote even bigger and scarier weapons while being easy to screen from the enemy.
With three gun options, there is plenty of variety in this unit.
110pts for 2 models and $58 for a box.
But let's check those stats...
Stats

Heavy (When this unit remains stationary, you get +1 to the to Hit roll)

Thoughts
I think this is a fun unit that can deal decent amounts of damage without being too dear to lose to return fire.
I would love to have a little Demi-Company of them! Hahahahaha!
That makes 12 Astra Militarum Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 13.48% Completed. The total Completed is 16.68% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!

I'm sure most battlefields are probably a bit too cluttered to be able to hit something decent every turn... but man it would be so satisfying to get a solid hit.
Absolutely. You cannot always get a shot every turn.
However, sometimes THAT is also a weapon. Forcing an opponent to move in such a way because they are trying to completely deny you a shot can also be a way of manipulating your opponent.
I usually only explain this to my opponent after the battle is done. Lol
Ah, that's a very good point. Control of firing lanes is so important.
💪💪💪💪💪💪
Indirect fire on the Bombast helps flush out stuff in cover though.
So many different units, I never knew existed, your doing a good job at highlighting them all.

That's a proper field artillery unit! If I played Guard, I would definitely want them for anti-infantry, and this seems like a good way to field lascannons for anti-armor on the cheap point-wise.
S14 Lascannons are a great asset to have against Knights and Land Raiders.
That D6+6 shots tho... nice!
