Warhammer 40k - Review Library 385 - Chaos Daemons, Fiends

Its like an anteater and a scorpion made a baby... and Slaanesh gave it boobs. But only on the one side.

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - Datasheet Review post!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit in the game of Warhammer 40,000

The last of the Indexes! A new challenge!

Right, I am finally ahead and by my best estimations as I explained in this Post, I should be able to keep ahead of the release curve and get the remainder of the Indexes reviewed before those Codex releases.

So I embark on a new challenge. I have calculated that there are roughly 148 reviews to do. I have chosen my frequency and have given myself 96 days to review them all. That means that I am aiming at Day 96 being the 21st of July 2025!

Today is Day 20/96.
I have reviewed 32/148.

Time elapsed: 20.83%
Review Completion: 21.62%
A little ahead! Good!

Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear

With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.

I am collecting funds in the following ways:

  • Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
  • Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
  • Selling some of the collection to friends.

At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $226 to pay off!

Every bit counts!

Back to the review!

Chaos Daemons, Fiends

10th Edition Index

Despite getting a new model set that is around 50% more menacing and serious, the Fiend is still a unit that looks a bit dorky. They are iconic though and I think GW prides themselves on keeping themes and evolving looks slowly. It is kind of needed when it comes to the kind of fans that they have!

But, do not underestimate this unit. Loads of speed and massive amounts of damage is the Fiend's strength. They have no ranged firepower and their saves are not great but they have a fair toughness and wound count.

A good Daemon player will strike hard and fast with these beasties and get them into combat really fast!

A unit of 3 is 110pts and a unit of 6 is 220pts.

Let's check their stats and abilities!

Stats

Movement 12"
Toughness 5
Save 7/5+++ (armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 4
Ld 7+
OC 2

Weapons

Standard weapons: barbed tail and dissecting claws.

Ranged Weapons

None

Melee Weapons

Barbed tail and dissecting claws.

5 Attack, Hitting on 3+, S5, AP-2 and 2 Damage each.
Devastating Wounds (Rolls of 6 to Wound cause Mortal Wounds)

Abilities

Deep Strike - If this unit arrives on the Battlefield from Reserves, it can be set up anywhere on the battlefield more than 9" from enemy models.

Soporific Musk

Enemy units wishing to make a Fall Back move while in engagement with this unit (Excluding Monsters and Vehicles) must take a Desperate Escape test. If the unit is Battle Shocked subtract 1 from their Desperate Escape tests.

Thoughts

Like I said... lots of damage.

5 Attacks per model makes it 15 attacks for 3 or 30 attacks on a unit of 6.

They hit on 3's so we are looking at 20 hits. Rolling to wound will give you 3-4 Devs on average and this results in 6-8 Mortal Wounds!

Not being able to Fall Back will be great when dealing with units that can Fall back, and shoot and/or charge.

That makes 20 Chaos Daemon Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 40% Completed! The total of the remaining Index reviews is now 113.

Thank you for reading!
