The Shadow Lord! The Dark Master! The First Daemon Prince!

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - Datasheet Review post!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit in the game of Warhammer 40,000

The last of the Indexes! A new challenge!

Right, I am finally ahead and by my best estimations as I explained in this Post, I should be able to keep ahead of the release curve and get the remainder of the Indexes reviewed before those Codex releases.

So I embark on a new challenge. I have calculated that there are roughly 148 reviews to do. I have chosen my frequency and have given myself 96 days to review them all. That means that I am aiming at Day 96 being the 21st of July 2025!

Today is Day 12/96.
I have reviewed 17/148.

Time elapsed: 12.5%
Review Completion: 11.48%
I skipped a day and now I am 1% behind!

Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear

With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.

I am collecting funds in the following ways:

  • Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
  • Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
  • Selling some of the collection to friends.

At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $236 to pay off!

Every bit counts!

Back to the review!

Chaos Daemons, Be'lakor

10th Edition Index

Be'lakor is the First Daemon Prince in the lore of Chaos. Once a mortal, he managed to balance the favour of all four of the Greater Gods of Chaos to reach ascension. Therefore he plays a pivotal role in the history and balance of the Chaos Gods and the Great Game.

He costs 375pts to field and he is a Monster with a lot of keywords!

Let's check his stats and abilities!

Stats

Movement 12"
Toughness 11
Save 3+/4++ (armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 20
Ld 6+
OC 5

Weapons

Standard weapons: Betraying Shades, Blade of Shadows

Betraying Shades - witchfire

Betraying Shades - focused witchfire

18" Range, 12 Shots, Hitting on 2+, S6, AP-3 and 1 Damage each.
Psychic (This weapon has the Psychic keyword)
Ignores Cover (An enemy cannot get Benefit of Cover against this attack)
Devastating Wounds (Rolls of 6 to Wound cause Mortal Wounds)
Hazardous (After using his weapon, roll a dice, on a 1, this model takes 3 Mortal Wounds)

Abilities

Deadly Demise D6 (When this model is destroyed, roll a dice to see if it explodes. On a 6 it does so, dealing D6 damage to every unit within 6" of this model)
Deep Strike - If this unit arrives on the Battlefield from Reserves, it can be set up anywhere on the battlefield more than 9" from enemy models.
Stealth - When targeting this unit with a ranged attack, do so at -1 to Hit.
Supreme Commander - This model MUST be your Warlord.

The Dark Master (Aura)

The area of the battlefield within 6" of this model is within your army's Shadow of Chaos.

Shadow Form Abilities

At the start of the Battle Round, select one Shadow Form ability. Until the end of the Battle Round, this model has that ability:

  • Wreathed in Shadows (Aura, Psychic)
While a friendly Legiones Daemonica or Shadow Legion unit is within 6" of this model, that unit can only be targeted by a ranged attack if the attacking model is within 18"

  • Pall of Despair (Aura, Psychic)
In the Battle-shock step of your opponent's Command phase, if an enemy unit is below Starting Strength within 9" of this model, that unit must take a Battle-shock test. (Units made of 1 model are below Starting Strength once they have taken a wound)
In addition. For each enemy unit that fails a Battle-Shock test within 9" of this model, this model regains D3 wounds.

  • Shadow Lord (Aura, Psychic)
While a friendly Legiones Daemonica or Shadow Legion unit is within 6" of this model, each time that unit makes an attack, re-roll Hit rolls of 1.

Thoughts

I think the main danger here is that Be'lakor and his surrounding units only needs to deal with enemies that are nearby. Especially if you can only deal with him at range.

Then, when the fighting is thickest, he can regain wounds by making damaged enemy units panic. Very powerful!

That makes 5 Chaos Daemon Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 10% Completed! The total of the remaining Index reviews is now 128.

Thank you for reading!
