Warhammer 40,000 - Unit Focus - Space Marine Predator Annihilator
Good day Warhammer Fans! This is Zak from Cape Town, South Africa and this is another Unit Focus.
Yesterday I looked at the in-dept of the Predator Destructor.
The Predator Annihilator is the flip-side of the coin as the Destructor has rules to help it kill more Infantry, the Annihilator is the anti-tank and anti-monster variant.
In 10th Edition it is good to note that these two tanks are not the same datasheet and there is no more a thing such as a Heavy Support Choice! This means that in any valid army you can include up to three of EACH tank because they are different units.
The above stat-line for the Predator Annihilator is identical to the Destructor, nothing to see there.
Then we look at weapons. Just like the Predator Destructor, this tank has the option for Lascannon or Heavy Bolter side sponsons. On the Destructor, because of the anti-infantry synergies, you wanted the heavy Bolters.
Now, with the Annihilator you want the lascannons of course.
This means that with the Predator Twin Lascannon, this tank fires 3 shots. Though the Predator Twin Lascannon is S14 and twin-linked (re-roll failed wound rolls). This gives it a better chance to cause wounds on exceptionally tough targets.
The reason we want 3x Lascannons is because of the Unit Ability below...
The Annihilator.
As you can see this only works when the target is a Monster or a Vehicle model. This gives you a re-roll of Damage 1.
All those Lascannons are D6+1 meaning when you roll a 1, it would be 2 Damage caused. You need to hit, then wound and then the enemy does a save at -3 Armor. Usually a medium tank now has a 6+ save unless it has an invulnerable save!
There is nothing more sad and anti-climatic than a damage roll of 1! Dealing a measly 2 damage on a big tank.
Now you will be able to roll that dice a second time to ensure the damage goes higher! Awesome!
I will be painting up both of these variants for the armory of my Stomrwolves Great Company.
Thank you for reading!
Cheers!

For sure! Great to have when you need to put some armor-melting punch into the army.
