I bought 100 Brushes from Shein so I can paint all my unpainted Warhammer models.
Well... I bought myself 100 brushes for a fairly low amount of money... these are basically the Standard Brush and then another 10 of them with a 00 size tip.
This SHOULD be enough to be able to paint all of the unpainted minis I have or the models that need to be repainted. Hehe...
But seriously. I was buying stuff for @aimeludick on SHEIN for her Comicon get-ups and I saw this bundle of paintbrushes for... R78... yup... $4.20... in other words R0.78 per brush or $0.042 per brush.
The 10x fine detail ones were R15 for 10 so R1.50 per brush or $0.08.
Why bother buying such rubbish? Surely they can't be that good?
Well... for starters, they are dirt cheap. Second. I have kid/teen wargamers learning to paint who eat through brushes so giving a single brush worth the same as all 110 brushes is just foolish!
Let them practice and make mistakes and learn. Maybe then they will be able to use the better brushes in ways that wont destroy them!
So... onwards to the testing!
Basically this presents like a Citadel Standard brush. I saw some of the brushes that have a loose strand or two. I will probably need to trip those when I get to them.
For now, I jus selected a good looking brush from the batch to work with...
And I got stuck in! I have a bunch of Redemptor Dreadnoughts to paint and there are plenty of massive areas that this little brush is plenty accurate to tackle.
As a bonus you need to remember that certain kinds of paint really hurt the lifespan of our brushes:
Metallic paints
Washes
Inks
And then there are techniques that kill the brush:
Drybrushing
Stippling
Usually we would retire brushes whose use made them less good to deal with these different bad mediums and techniques. But with a cheap brush in a good cheap condition, I can just get right to it!
Camera-roll of some of my progress:
Well how about that? I managed to get some work done. This brush was not a pain to deal with and I could also be a little bit... demanding of the brush without worrying about hurting its constitution. It does have 99 replacements after all.
Pretty cool!

@zakludick
😳 Massive!
Lol, what? My collection of brushes? Haha
Lol. At least you can just toss them away and grab another one. Most stuff you buy in the shops locally is Chinese anyway so who cares as long as they do the job and they are cheap.
Yeah, there are brushes at the hobby store that are R200+ for one. Then you must buy a brush maintaining kit with a bristle soap and a conditioner etc. I don't need that kind of stress in my life. lol.
I enjoy painting and my painting is of a decent level but I am not one of those super artists.
I also use those to do the dirty work and base coats, decent for the price brushes !
Indeed. At least I am painting!
The painting work looks cool, I never realised they sell some of these things on Shein until today, i thought it was just clothtings
Well, they sell the brushes.
They also have a bunch of electronics etc
great addition to the hobby stuffs man. Always handy to have enough brushes close at hand. now go and tackle that pile of unfinished models.
Hehe. Indeed.
