40k - Faction Pack - Space Marines - Detachment 7 - 1st Company Task Force
Hello everyone and welcome to Warhammer 40k and here I review another Detachment Review for the Space Marines Army, the 1st Company Task Force!
As explained in the post The Future of Warhammer 40k Datasheet Reviews on Hive - Faction Pack orientated we are now going to be doing reviews based on the new Faction Packs.
This post is based on Faction Pack Space Marines that have more Detachments than Codex Space Marines and it replaces everything that happened prior. There are small changes and these changes are based on what can be found online at www.warhammer-community.com.
Since I started, the Space Marines have received even MORE Detachments, putting me back from getting to any other factions. So I need to get my ass in gear and get more of these done at a faster pace.
The 1st Company is the Veteran Company of any Chapter of Space Marines (That is Codex-compliant anyway). To be promoted to the 1st Company is a great honor. Many Lieutenants and Captains spent at least some of their time in the 1st Company as well as Champions and the like.
This company is formed into Veteran squads and also has all the Chapter's Terminator Armor. Let's see what they can do!
On with the Review!
Note that this Detachment makes use of the Space Marine Army Rule, Oath of Moment.
1st Company Task Force
Detachment Rule - Extremis-level Threat
Once per battle, in the Command phase, you can use this ability on the Oath of Moment target. Units in yout army can now Ro-roll the to Wounds roll as well.
Review So 100%, that turn, you want to kill that thing dead.
Enhancements
Most Detachments have 4 Enhancements. These can only be given to Characters that qualify and never to Epic Heroes. You may only select up to three Enhancements to field at the same time. The Points indicated nect to these Enhancements are stated as they are at the time of writing this article. They may change in the latest Minutorum Field Manual.
The Imperium's Sword - 25pts
Adeptus Astartes model only. Add 1 to the model's melee weapons. Once per game for a phase, add 1 to the attacks of all the melee weapons in the model's unit.
Iron Resolve - 15pts
Terminator Armor model only. This model has a 5+ Feel No Pain ability. Once per game after being targeted by an attack, until the end of the phase the bearer's unit has the 5+ Feel No Pain ability.
Fear Made Manifest (Aura) - 30pts
Adeptus Astartes model only. While enemy units (excluding Monsters and Vehicles) that are within 6" of the bearer and fails their Battle-shock test, one model in that unit is destroyed. Once per battle, you can chose that unit to lose D3 models instead.
Rites of War - 10pts
Adeptus Astartes model only. The bearer has a 4+ Feel No Pain ability.
Stratagems
Heroes of the Chapter - 1 CP
When: Your Shoot or Fight phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad unit that has not yet shot or fought.
Effect: That unit adds 1 to the Hit roll and if the unit is Below Half strength, they add 1 to the Wound roll as well.
Armor of Contempt - 1 CP
When: Your opponent's Shoot or Fight phase, after an enemy has selected its targets.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army that was selected by one or more of those attacks.
Effect: Until the attacking unit has finished making its attacks, each attack they make is at -1 Armour Penetration Characteristic.
Review Note that most Space Marine Detachments have this Stratagem as one of their 6 Stratagems, it is not an error that they and the Gladius have Armour of Contempt.
Terrifying Proficiency - 1CP
When: Your Fight Phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad unit that had made a Charge move this turn and destroyed one or more enemy units this phase.
Effect: In your opponent's next Command phase, each enemy within 6" of this unit must take a Battle Shock test. Units that are Below half strength must test at a -1 modifier.
Orbital Teleportarium - 1CP
When: End of your opponent's Fight phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator unit.
Effect: Remove your unit from the battlefield and place them into Strategic Reserves. It will be set up back on to the board in the next Reinforcements step and Deep Strike
Restrictions: You cannot be selected if they are in combat.
Duty and Honour - 1CP
When: Your Movement phase
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad unit that is within range of an objective marker you control.
Effect: That Objective marker remains yours until the enemy comes to take it away.
Review In other words Sticky Objectives.
Legendary Fortitude - 1 CP
When: Your opponent's Charge phase, just after an enemy ends a Charge move.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator, Bladeguard, Sternguard or Vanguard squad within range of that enemy unit.
Effect: Until the end of the turn, each time an attack is allocated to this unit, subtract 1 from the Damage characteristi of the attack.
Review
In a nutshell: This army needs Terminators, Bladeguard, Sternguard and Vanguard squads to make it work and they can be rather heavily buffed. If they are the sort of units that you enjoy using, then this Detachment is for you.
Next, Enhancements.
Their enhancements are good and generally base buff and then once per game squad buff when it matters!
Stratagems: Like said, without Veteran units, these would not work!
Thank you for reading this review!
