One Day, the Robot Will Sweep—Not Me
If you went to boarding school or maybe in the university then you would relate to what I am about to tell you.
You know that thing when you go back home for a holiday, and you suddenly turn to royalty for a while, and even at that, you can't be truly comfortable raising your legs, so your Nigerian mom can sweep? I don't even stay where my mom is sweeping. Mine usually lasts not more than a week before everything goes back to normal. And ever since the duration keeps reducing.
This semester, after exams, I went home, and it lasted only two days. The next day, it was my turn to sweep the house, and it got me wishing and imagining, waking up in an automated house that cleans itself.
I am going to be completely honest, I don't hate chores, but I don't like them either; okay, the only time I started getting kinda comfortable or having fun while sweeping was when my mom got a brush for the house and got rid of the broo. It got better when I got a smartphone I could use to set my song playlist for sweeping and even much better when I got myself an earpiece.
I know people would say robots are slowly taking over human jobs and making people jobless, and the more we embrace them, the more jobs get scarce, and that is absolutely true. But it's too late because nothing can be done about it now, technology has become a part of our lives and enhances every day. I for sure have accepted that robots would displace me from my job one day, but since nothing can be done about it until then, I think I would be quite old or even dead before it reaches my turn to be displaced by robots so why not enjoy the benefits it brings and make my life a little easier.
I have always accepted the idea of robots, right from when I was small before I even knew they were real, when I only saw them in cartoons. No matter the inevitable downsides, robots are created to make our lives easy. I don't know if life was meant to be made easy by robots, but what can I say? They are here already, so why not enjoy them and not only suffer the downsides?
I wish I had robots, the only little thing that is always hiding in a dark place in my head are these horror movies about killer robots or malfunctioning smart houses, lol. Maybe I just watch too many horror movies, but I have heard of some lethal robot accidents. As for the evil robots, maybe that's just in my horror film-filled head. But still, I would love to, even if for just a day, wake up on a holiday morning, take my already prepared food to the sofa, turn on the TV, and raise my legs for the robot to vacuum the place.
All housework will be replaced by robots, sweeping and mopping are routine jobs that annoy women.
