NI LAS HUELLAS

Enciendo el último cigarro de la paciencia.
Mis pies fuman la derrota
como mismo se deshace
tu nombre escrito en el humo.
Enciendo el último cigarro
como se encienden las velas de la muerte,
como quien espera las luces negras
como el perro a la orilla del camino.
Mi cigarro es la penitencia,
un castigo que debo guardar.
Mis pies han de borrar el sitio
para no llevar al otro lado
ninguna mancha.
Ni el perro se pudo fumar el cigarro,
el camino le marcó la ausencia
y tu nombre, tu nombre...
De tu nombre, ya no quedan
ni las huellas.

NOT EVEN FOOTPRINTS

I light the last cigar of patience.
My feet smoke defeat
just as your name written in the smoke dissolves.
I light the last cigar
as the candles of death are lit,
like someone waiting for the black lights
like a dog by the side of the road.
My cigar is penance,
a punishment I must keep.
My feet must erase the place
so as not to carry any stain to the other side.
Not even the dog could smoke the cigarette,
the road marked its absence,
and your name, your name...
Of your name, not even the traces remain.
