Modern Technology: Blessing or Burden?

Today, I’ll be sharing my views and thoughts on this week’s theme, “Modern Technology.”
Modern technology has brought massive improvements, connecting people across the globe, improving work, entertainment, and communication. making life easier and more comfortable.
However, it has also caused emotional distance, loss of face-to-face interaction, and even increased the high rate of cybercrime. For example, online scams carried out by fraudsters who steal people’s funds using fake identities.
Technology is one of the greatest gifts of modern civilization. It has become one of our closest friend or companion, it has become something we use daily to connect with relatives, family members, and friends without stressing to meet with them physically.
Just like me, I’ve been away from home for about two years now, living separately from my family. Yet, I can still communicate with them through phone calls, chats, and even video calls. It makes me feel at home even though we are separated by distance. That’s the great power of modern technology.
Still, I believe face-to-face communication holds more value and understanding and has no side effects. That’s why I always travel home during the December period to spend quality time with my loved ones.
Back in the olden days, the only means of communication was by sending and receiving letters, which caused a lot of delays and stress. But now, everyone can communicate with whoever they please, in seconds, and across the world.
Technology has also greatly improved businesses globally, and has also been the supporting hand to manufacturers, by creating special equipment used in production. Today, anyone can order goods and services and get them delivered right to their doorstep without moving an inch. Marketing has gradually gone beyond physical contact, you can imagine me converting my local currency into USD, then trading it for HBD and Hive. This wouldn’t have been possible without modern technology.
However, modern technology can affect us negatively, especially when used inappropriately. In terms of education, for example, it can distract students from learning. I remember when I was in secondary school, sometimes I do see some students who used to chat and play games in class while lessons were going on. This also applies to businesses, relationships, and daily life.
To stay safe and avoid being negatively affected, we must learn to control technology instead of letting it control us. Use it wisely, at the right time, and for the right purpose.
With this everything will move smoothly, and technology will remain a blessing to all of us rather than being a burden.
