Would it be worth it?
I'm the kind of human who doesn't like talking about government taxes in my nation, because I get angry whenever I remember the irrelevant taxes that are being imposed on unnecessary things.
Little story: Recently, I went to the Rivers state tax office in the state I'm residing in to resolve some issues with my current company. Went there feeling alright in the head, "don't laugh" because I can be abnormal when it comes to internal revenue taxes, so I pretended like I was okay and happy to be in that particular office at that moment in my life.
I entered the office with my company's necessary documents that shows the receipts of payment that was made to the state government on the subject matter, everything was going smoothly till the officer mentioned that he needs my company's property tax details "immediately I became shocked" okay we are being mandated to pay taxes to the state government on the properties that we own as individuals. Paying tax for property that I own, "Who does that?" When I heard what the officer said, I noticed anger started boiling from my stomach, thereby enveloping my whole face. Then he turned and was like, "Are you okay?" With the look on my face, I didn't want him to notice it, so I just acted like I was okay with the whole thing.
I don't see paying taxes being the problem, though. The only problem I have is the fact that these taxes that are being paid aren't used for the betterment of the state or even the nation as a whole. Paying money to a government that isn't appreciative of its citizens.
So, back to the topic: government imposing hefty taxes on unhealthy things won't be a bad thing to do, though, because seeing the way these things cause damage to people's health, yet despite the health factor that is to be considered, people still don't care about the health factor. All they care about is satisfying their desires.
On the pack of cigarettes, what is written is "smokers are liable to die young," yet people don't care about that aspect; they just care about satisfying that desire as it comes, thereby causing them to engage in acts that would cause harm to their health. So if the government imposed heavy taxes on such harmful substances, then the big question would be, "won't people still afford it?" Because addiction is something that people can't easily stop, so even if the prices increase,, "do you think people won't still afford it?" That is the question.
I happen to know someone who smokes and drinks alcohol. During the days that he doesn't have money, he would go as far as selling some of his possessions just to afford purchasing those substances. So an addiction is something that can't be easily stopped, but then the government imposing a hefty tax on these things is gonna be a starting point to reducing the rate at which people consume these things.

The Story of that Guy, let us understand that Desperate people will go as far as they can go to do things they are addicted to,
I think taxes might not even be the solution on the long run
Yeah. I think so, too, because addiction isn't something that can wipe away easily. It's time and patience.
Huhm, its true we don't quite see the impact of this so called "taxes", we are not in any way really benefiting from it. But I still think imposing hefty sums on this harmful substances would do more good to the citizens. Just my take though.
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah. But then, in the long run,, I don't think it has that effect agai,n, though.

Very much welcome.
I have seen recently how little things acquired abnormal taxes. This is not the best, as those items are healthy ones. The fact remains that unhealthy goods should call for an unhealthy tax.
To be candid, people will still afford it as it has become an addiction to them.
People will still be able to afford it no matter the amount of tax placed on it. It all boils down to the government banding it.
