More than being learned.

Ever had a conversation with someone, and then the other person's level of adapting or viewing the conversation is different from yours? After a while, you'd find yourself wishing the person was learned, I have found myself in a situation like that.

There is this person in my life, despite the person not being learned, I love communicating with her, though she is way older than me, even if our conversation doesn't always end in a proper understanding. At least I'd be proud that I get to pass my information, and often we would find ourselves arguing about certain subject matter.

Little story: Recently, that person in my life was sick, how did I know in the first place? "Well, I knew" because when someone is very close to you, you'd know when they aren't feeling alright. Seeing her shaking that evening, I was concerned and I told her to go to the hospital. Besides being in the Nigerian police force there are some health benefits that such persons enjoy.

And she seconded that, there is a registered hospital that she can go to for free and would be taken care of, and I was like "why not visit the hospital" since you are down healthwise. Now the next words that she uttered kind of choked me. She said, and I quote, "let people who are more sick than me enjoy the benefit." People who are sicker? What do you mean by that? Immediately I became furious and decided to end the conversation. I know someone who is learned won't say something like that.

But it's not all about being learned, it's about the individual, I believe, even if she was learned, she would have still acted the way she is doing right now. I also happened to know someone who isn't learned but acts like she is. Whenever she opens her mouth to speak, you'd think she is very much learned, but she isn't.

I know being learned or literate doesn't make someone a better person but then being learned has a way it impacts our lives and the way we think and view the world. The only difference between being literate and illiterate is the fact that being literate opens up rooms of opportunities.

In conclusion when we talk about certain traits a person possesses, being literate doesn't guarantee positive character traits. I know we all believe that some literate people lack empathy or can engage in harmful acts.

Being learned doesn't define the character traits of an individual. Aside from being learned, other factors could shape the life and behavior of an individual such as upbringing, like they said "charity doesn't begin on that streets, it begins at home". Then, when the individual starts growing up and leaving the place where charity began, they start associating with peers, which is likely to affect the behavior of that individual.

Inasmuch as being literate doesn't define someone's trait, it still has an impact on our lives in the way we think and view things.

Thanks for reading 🧡

Sometimes, when you're speaking with an illiterate person, you might notice the difference between how illiterate and literate people talk. You may even find that the illiterate person speaks with more wisdom than the literate one, and you'll prefer talking to them. Some literate people went to school, but the way they behave or speak can be so disappointing that you begin to wonder, "Did this person really go to school?" Because they don't know how to speak or respect, even illiterate people can speak and are respected more than them. Also, to me your friend supposed not to utter such statements.

Being learned doesn't guarantee good behave or a better person in anyway at all. Because one can be learned and still be dumb
