Ofrenda - Vibes Week 37

In 2017, I had the pleasure of being hired to arrange the music for a singer who was preparing his debut album. The assignment was simple: make his repertoire—composed entirely of original songs written by him—sound like a Big Band, evoking the spirit of the 1950s, but using a reduced ensemble. That’s exactly what I did, and it earned him a nomination in the Jazz category of the following year’s Pepsi Music Awards.

Given that this week’s theme for Vibes is precisely that jazzy sound from that era and using the same format, I decided—for the first time—to sing one of those songs myself. It was one that opened the doors to the world of music for El Otro Polo.

The song is titled Ofrenda, and to preserve the original recording’s sound, made entirely with top-tier musicians, I ran the file through PopPopAi. I considered making a shorter version without the solos, but honestly, it took away too much from the song. So here you have the full version to enjoy.

En 2017 tuve el gusto de ser contratado para hacer los arreglos para que un cantante que estaba preparando su primera producción discográfica. El encargo era sencillo: hacer sonar el repertorio, que son puras canciones originales escritas por él, con el sonido de una Big Band y evocando los años 50, pero con un formato reducido de músicos. Y eso fue lo que hice y lo llevó a ser nominado en la categoría de Jazz en los Premios Pepsi Music del año siguiente.

En vista de que la solicitud para esta semana del Vibes, es precisamente ese sonido jazzoso, de esa época y con ese mismo formato, decidí, por primera vez, cantar yo una de esas canciones que le abrieron la puerta al mundo de la música [El Otro Polo](https://www.instagram.com/elotropolo_/.

Esta canción lleva por título Ofrenda y para mantener el sonido de la grabación que fue con puros músicos de primera línea, pasé el archivo por PopPopAi. Pensé en hacer una versión reducida, sin los solos, pero la verdad es que le restaba mucho a la canción. Así que acá la pueden disfrutar completa.
