Decorated headbands are excellent for themed parties, as they can be customized in many ways and with different materials. They can have as many elements as you are willing to wear, and if you make them with good support and lightweight materials, I assure you that you can use them throughout the event where you will be wearing them.

For this Halloween month, I have some ideas in mind, and I wanted to draw inspiration from a movie or story that I really like, “Alice in Wonderland,” by placing a hat, some cards, and a key on the headband. If you've seen the movie, you know that these are elements that are part of the narrative of the whole story. I want to show you my process in this post... Welcome.

• On a piece of thick cardboard (I used a manila folder), I drew the shape of the hat crown. Then, I cut it out of black suede fabric and glued the two pieces together with hot glue.

Using cardboard or another type of cardstock, cut out two circles of the appropriate sizes for the base and top of the hat crown. Line them with suede fabric and then with the headband.

To attach the circle to the headband, I also used a piece of suede to glue both elements together with hot silicone.

Now that the headband is lined and the base of the hat is made and attached to the headband, it's time for the best part: decorating it to our liking.

I cut a rectangle out of the star-patterned tulle fabric, folded the fabric lengthwise, basted it with a needle and thread, and then pulled the thread to gather the entire design. This will be a decorative element that I will add later.

I placed elements that I had available and that I thought went with the design. Like a silver ribbon, which I glued to the top of the hat.

I wrapped a pipe cleaner around a marker to give it a spiral shape.

I attached the preformed stone, tulle, and chenille with hot silicone.

Using orange satin fabric, I did the same thing I did with the tulle earlier, attaching it to the hat. This will add interest and a touch of color. It is important to seal the edges of this fabric, as it frays easily.

In the Canva app, I chose two elements: a poker deck and an antique key, and printed them on white cardstock.

I glued on the satin fabric I had prepared earlier.

I cut out the design of the antique key from gold glitter foam and decorated it with a piece of orange satin.

I printed out the poker card images, cut them out, and placed them on black cardstock, leaving a border. Then I glued it onto the headband.

I loved making this headband and adding some elements from the movie “Alice in Wonderland.” The colors look beautiful in person; the photo really couldn't capture how beautiful and striking the overall design of this headband turned out.
