Como bien sabemos, con el inicio de cada año llega también esa lista de propósitos y metas por cumplir, y en mi caso, las remodelaciones y mejoras en casa son una prioridad absoluta. Para mí, trabajar en nuestro espacio personal no es solo un gasto, sino una inversión directa en nuestra calidad de vida y bienestar emocional.

El año que recién terminó fue una verdadera escuela de paciencia y esfuerzo. Aunque logré cumplir varias metas, los últimos meses fueron especialmente retadores debido a un problema que muchos propietarios tememos: las filtraciones. Hoy quiero compartirles cómo, después de mucho trabajo y varias decisiones difíciles, logré solucionar un problema que me estaba quitando el sueño y cómo esto cambió mis prioridades para este nuevo año.

El desafío: Una filtración que amenazaba mi cocina

Para ponerlos un poco en contexto, el problema se originaba en el baño principal, específicamente en el área de la ducha. El agua se filtraba de manera silenciosa pero constante hacia la cocina. Al principio, intenté por todos los medios buscar soluciones superficiales para evitar lo inevitable: romper la cerámica y la pared. Sin embargo, el sistema interno de la tubería de la regadera, justo en el área de la llave, estaba seriamente dañado. El flujo de agua era tal que las puertas de los gabinetes de mi cocina estaban empezando a sufrir los estragos de la humedad.

As we all know, with the start of each year comes that list of resolutions and goals to achieve, and in my case, home renovations and improvements are a top priority. For me, working on our personal space is not just an expense, but a direct investment in our quality of life and emotional well-being.

The year that just ended was a real lesson in patience and effort. Although I managed to achieve several goals, the last few months were especially challenging due to a problem that many homeowners fear: leaks. Today I want to share with you how, after a lot of work and several difficult decisions, I managed to solve a problem that was keeping me awake at night and how this changed my priorities for this new year.

The challenge: A leak that threatened my kitchen

To give you some context, the problem originated in the master bathroom, specifically in the shower area. Water was leaking silently but steadily into the kitchen. At first, I tried everything I could to find superficial solutions to avoid the inevitable: breaking the tile and wall. However, the internal plumbing system of the shower, right in the

Ante este panorama, entendí que no podía seguir poniendo "parches"; debía trabajar por etapas y con determinación.

Paso a paso: La satisfacción de hacer las cosas bien Lo primero que abordé fue el cambio de la llave de agua principal. Opté por una de calidad superior para no tener que preocuparme por eso en años. Una vez resuelto eso, pasamos a lo más fuerte: cambiar toda la tubería de la regadera y la llave completa. Fue un trabajo duro, pero ver que el sistema nuevo funcionaba a la perfección me dio una satisfacción enorme.

Sin embargo, surgió un nuevo inconveniente. Al realizar estas reparaciones, me quedé sin regadera, ya que el tubo de la anterior se había partido literalmente dentro de la pared. Mi regadera anterior era de esas tipo "espejo", cuadrada y muy elegante, donde el agua caía como una cascada. Visualmente era un espectáculo, pero al comprarla descubrí una verdad amarga: el material era de mala calidad. Aunque parecía metal, era un plástico pintado que terminó por ceder. Me sentí un poco engañada por esa compra antigua, aunque la disfruté mientras duró.

This allowed water to seep between the tiles and the wall, feeding the constant leak. But my biggest fear was the apartment's main white water valve, which was also failing. Faced with this situation, I realized that I couldn't keep putting on “band-aids”; I had to work in stages and with determination.

Step by step: The satisfaction of doing things right The first thing I tackled was replacing the main water valve. I opted for a higher quality one so I wouldn't have to worry about it for years. Once that was sorted, we moved on to the hardest part: replacing all the shower pipes and the entire valve. It was hard work, but seeing the new system work perfectly gave me enormous satisfaction.

However, a new problem arose. While carrying out these repairs, I was left without a shower, as the old pipe had literally broken inside the wall. My previous shower head was one of those “mirror” types, square and very elegant, where the water fell like a waterfall. Visually, it was spectacular, but when I bought it, I discovered a bitter truth: the material was of poor quality. Although it looked like metal, it was painted plastic that eventually gave way. I felt a little cheated by that old purchase, although I enjoyed it while it lasted.

Además de la tubería, mandé a aplicar un carateo nuevo y profesional a toda la cerámica del área de la ducha y el baño en general. El resultado fue impecable. Ver el baño sellado y saber que la cocina finalmente está seca me produce un alivio inmenso. De hecho, el trabajo quedó tan bien hecho que he decidido sacar el cambio de cerámica de mi lista de prioridades inmediatas. ¡Ahora luce como nueva!

Lo que viene para el 2026 Haber solucionado este gran problema me permite enfocarme en otros arreglos que también requieren atención. Choosing quality and a new style This time, I decided I wouldn't make the same mistake. I did my research, read the specifications, and made sure my new shower head was made of genuine, heavy-duty metal. To give it a modern and different touch, I chose it in black. I plan to change all the bathroom fixtures to this color, as I think it adds a sober and contemporary elegance that really refreshes the atmosphere. I bought the piece on Mercado Libre, and when I picked it up and held it in my hands, I knew it was worth every penny. The difference in weight and finish is remarkable; you can really feel the robustness of the material.

In addition to the plumbing, I had new, professional grouting applied to all the ceramic tiles in the shower area and the bathroom in general. The result was impeccable. Seeing the bathroom sealed and knowing that the kitchen is finally dry brings me immense relief. In fact, the job was done so well that I've decided to remove the tile replacement from my list of immediate priorities. Now it looks like new!

What's coming in 2026 Having solved this major problem allows me to focus on other repairs that also require attention. For example, I still need to unclog one of the toilets in the sink area, a task that has been difficult even with specialized machinery. But I'm not stopping there; I also have a beautiful project in mind for the garden: expanding the floor, building some planters, and painting the entire apartment, both inside and out.
