Puerto Rico Silver 5 Centavos

Hello everyone! I am going to do some articles about coins that I have in my personal collection. It is not that it is a great collection but it is extensive since I have been collecting coins since I was a child. They gave me some and that made me fond of them.

Here I will only talk about gold and silver coins, well above all silver because I don't have too many gold ones 🤣🤣. I would like to I hope not to bore you with my articles.

I will start with a coin that was given to me and that I have had for a long time. I am fond of it because it was a gift, as a coin it is nothing special but it is very interesting and attractive.

It is a 5 Centavos coin from Puerto Rico from 1896 just before Spain lost the island to the US, for this reason this is a Spanish coin created at the Madrid mint by the Royal Mint.
Therefore all the iconography is Spanish. It is a simple coin given its low nominal value. On the obverse you can simply read Isla de Puerto Rico with the value and date of minting. On the reverse you can see the typical Spanish crown coat of arms with the Pillars of Hercules and the motto Plus Ultra.
It is a light coin, just 1.25 grams, but with good purity for legal tender silver (.835). It was not a very large edition, except 600,000, which for its value are few.
