Today I'm going to talk about an anime that surprised me last season. It's really quite good, even with its pronounced gore, but its characters, the intriguing story, and their relationships are captivating. So, without further ado, here are my impressions.
Clevatess majuu no ou to akago to shikabane no yuusha (魔探偵ロキ RAGNAROK)…
Premiering in July and concluding its first season in September, with a second season already confirmed. A dark fantasy story of action, adventure, and drama, brought to you by the animation studio Lay-duce and directed by Kiyotaka Taguchi, with a total of 12 episodes.
Regarding the plot…
The story centers on Clevatess, one of the kings of the magical beast, whom certain heroes wish to destroy, considering him a great threat to humanity. However, these heroes are easily defeated by him. This enrages him, and upon attacking them, he decides to go to the kingdom from which these heroes came, killing everyone there, including the king. However, among the ruins, a person is found holding a crying baby, begging him to save the child. Clevatess tells him that his goal is to destroy humanity, asking what reason there would be to save it. However, the person replies that babies don't choose where they are born, that they are not to blame for the sins of adults, and, in short, that if he raises the baby, he can change the world.
Still hesitant, he accepts, taking the baby with him. However, despite helping a little with hygiene, he's unfamiliar with raising a human infant, who cries desperately for food. Afterward, he decides to revive one of the heroes he killed, a woman, since he knows women breastfeed. But, clearly, she can't; she produces no milk. Even so, he makes her his slave and forces her to help him with the baby. Thus begins the adventure of a magical king, a fallen heroine, and a baby—the prince of the nation he destroyed—on a quest to change the world and understand his purpose in it.
Personal opinion
The first thing that impressed me was the sheer amount of bloody scenes. It had been a while since I'd seen an anime like that. But besides the incredible animation, the well-executed fight scenes, and everything else, it's the story that really stands out: how a magical, incredibly strong beast decides to raise a baby who is none other than the prince of the nation he just destroyed. The interactions with both the heroine and the baby are hilarious at times, especially given his personality. But I love that, despite being so strong, he has his own questions and a peculiar sense of honor, which makes him interested in raising a child, discovering more about himself, and trying to understand those beings he considers inferior.
That said, don't expect a romantic comedy. While it does have funny parts, it's also a story packed with action, magic, and unexpected situations, all with dark and mysterious undertones that make it much more engaging. It also raises moral questions that will undoubtedly make you reflect on many things, especially the theme of heroes. Here we have a plot that builds its own world with complex characters, each driven by their own moral compass, and a tension amidst political dramas, giving it its own unique essence.
Although it's a fresh story in a way, with the premise of a conceited monster taking care of a baby, it does have an uneven pace, especially in the later episodes, where it felt rushed. Added to this are antagonists who, while initially quite compelling, ultimately disappoint because they lacked depth. Furthermore, the fanservice elements were completely unnecessary; it had to be said.
Positive points…
-Novel premise.
-Contrast of tones; we move from dark moments to tender and comedic ones, which are well done.
-Construction of its own world, developing its characters in parallel.
-Animation reminiscent of the old school, with intense and well-executed battles.
Negative points…
-Inconsistent pacing.
-Characters that weren't as expected.
-Unnecessary fanservice.

The narrative, both visual and the story itself, its characters, end up drawing you in; however, if you don't particularly like bloody and brutal moments, you might not enjoy it.

Hoy vengo hablar de un anime que me sorprendió de la temporada pasada, realmente es bastante bueno, aun con su gore bien pronunciado, pero sus personajes, la historia tan intrigante y las relaciones de los mismos, llegan a cautivarte. Así que, sin más que agregar por el momento, aquí les dejo mis impresiones del mismo.
Clevatess majuu no ou to akago to shikabane no yuusha (魔探偵ロキ RAGNAROK)…
Estrenado en julio y finalizando su primera temporada en septiembre, ya que se confirmó la producción de la segunda temporada. Una historia de fantasía oscura, acción, aventura y drama, traída por el estudio de animación Lay-duce y dirigida por Kiyotaka Taguchi, con un total de 12 episodios.
En cuanto a la trama…
La historia se centra en Clevatess, uno de los reyes de la bestia mágica, quienes ciertos héroes desean acabar con él, ya que lo consideran una gran amenaza a la humanidad, sin embargo, estos héroes son derrotados con facilidad por él; este hecho hace que se enoje, al atacarlo, decide ir al reino de donde provienen estos héroes, acabando con todos ahí, incluso al rey. No obstante, entre los escombros hay una persona con un bebe en brazos llorando, suplicándole que salve a la criatura, a lo que él le dice que su objetivo es destruir a la humanidad, cuál sería la razón de salvarlo, sin embargo, esa persona le replica diciendo que los bebés no eligen donde nacer, que no tienen la culpa de los pecados de los adultos y, en resumidas palabras, básicamente que, si lo cría, puede cambiar el mundo.
Aun dudoso, acepta, llevándoselo, no obstante, a pesar de que lo ayuda un poco con la higiene, desconoce el criar a un bebe humano, el cual llora por comer desesperadamente; tras ello, decide revivir a un héroe de los que mato, a una mujer, ya que sabe que las mujeres amamantan. Pero, claramente ella no puede, no le sale leche, aun así, la convierte en su esclava y la obliga ayudarlo con el bebe y así comienza a la aventura de un rey mágico, una heroína caída y un bebe, quién es el príncipe de la nación que destruyó, en búsqueda de cambiar el mundo y de entender su razón en el mismo.
Opinión personal
Lo primero que me impresiono fue las escenas tan sangrientas que se nos muestra, tenía un rato sin yo ver un anime de ese estilo, pero además de una increíble animación que, si peleas bien logradas y todo lo demás, es la historia, el como una bestia mágica, sumamente fuerte, decide criar a un bebe, que es nada más y nada menos que el príncipe de la nación que acababa de destruir. Las interacciones tanto con la heroína como con el bebe, son demasiado graciosas en ocasiones, más con la personalidad que se carga; pero me encanta que, a pesar de ser fuerte, tiene sus cuestionamientos y honor peculiar y eso hace que se interese en criar a un niño y descubra más de él e intente de entender a aquellos seres que considera inferiores.
Eso sí, no esperes una comedia romántica que, si tiene partes graciosas eso sí, aun así, es una historia con bastante acción, magia y llena de situaciones inesperadas, de tonos oscuros y misteriosos, lo que hace engancharte mucho más; además de cuestiones morales que, sin duda alguna, te hará reflexionar muchas cosas, sobre todo el tema de los héroes. Aquí tenemos una trama que construye su propio mundo con personajes complejos, llevados a sus propios rangos morales y una tensión entre dramas políticos, que hace que obtenga su propia esencia.
Aunque, es una historia fresca en cierto modo, con una premisa de un monstruo engreído cuidando de un bebe, si tiene su ritmo irregular, más que todo en los últimos episodios, donde se sintió como apresurado, aunado de antagonistas que se presentaba como algo bastante llamativos, terminan decepcionando, porque falto como más profundidad. Asimismo, los elementos de fanservice fueron sumamente innecesarios, se tenia que decir.
Puntos positivos…
-Premisa novedosa.
-Contraste de tonos, pasamos de momentos oscuros en referencia a los tiernos y cómicos, que son bien logrados.
-Construcción de su propio mundo, desarrollando a la par a sus personajes.
-Una animación que hace recordar a la vieja escuela, con batallas intensas y bien ejecutadas.
Puntos negativos…
-Ritmo inconsistente.
-Personajes que no era como se esperaba.
-Fanservice innecesario.
Puntaje que le doy…

La narrativa, tanto visual como la historia en sí, sus personajes, terminan atrayéndote, sin embargo, si no te gusta mucho los momentos sangrientos y llenos de brutalidades, puede que no te guste.

Suena bien, la buscaré a ver qué pasa ahora en estos días de descanso hay que aprovechar.
Precisamente fue por el gore y la violencia que la terminé de ver jaja porque sino me iba a parecer un anime de fantasía más. No es malo, creo que la historia poco a poco te va atrapando pero tampoco creo que sea de lo mejor de la temporada.

Este anime me gustó mucho porque no es como la mayoría de obras de fantasía de siempre. Si bien es fantasía oscura, también es cierto que tiene sus clichés de siempre y todo. Pero a pesar de eso tiene una historia muy interesante, una construcción de un mundo mágico dominado por monstruos que llama la atención, un buen desarrollo de personajes y excelentes batallas con un nivel de gore impactante al no tener nada de censura inclusive.
En cuanto a adaptación, es excelente, la animación no es la mejor del mundo, pero logra destacarse bastante bien y más al final. Los cambios de ritmo y giros inesperados sí que te dejan un tanto desprevenido y hay cierta parte de la historia en la que te quedas tipo "qué rayos", pero nada d l otro mundo, la verdad. Me alegra que hayan anunciado de una la segunda temporada porque quiero ver más de esta historia en el futuro.

I totally agree with you on the negative points, especially the pace towards the end. It felt like they stepped on the gas too quickly and the story lost some of the great build-up it had, not to mention the fanservice, which was quite excessive in a plot that took itself so seriously. Still, seeing such a powerful and proud Demon King stressed out by a crying baby and forcing the heroine to “help out” is priceless 😂. It's great that they've already confirmed a second season because I want to see how that dysfunctional “family” continues to evolve! Good review.
I really like the animation and action and even plot of this series. I think a season 2 should be launched soon. The world where humanity is a minority and that most of the world is dominated by other races is kind of interesting and intimidating.
