Hello fellow creators, I don't consider myself a messy person, but when I'm in a hurry I often can't find what I'm looking for. For this reason, I have created the habit of keeping my jewelry, accessories and other small belongings in chests and boxes, this way, I make sure I don't misplace anything and I find them easily.

These days I've been missing a new container to store small figurines that I use in my crafts, so I take the opportunity to bring you this beautiful barrel-shaped chest made from a tin can, cardboard and decorated with moldable foami. I wanted to simulate a wooden barrel, one of those fermentation barrels in which wine is stored and to embellish it I decorated it with a cherry plant on the front and on the lid. Below, I show you how I made it.

Hola amigos creadores, no me considero una persona desordenada, pero cuando estoy apurada muchas veces no encuentro lo que estoy buscando. Por este motivo, he creado la costumbre de guardar mis joyas, accesorios y otras pertenencias pequeñas en cofres y cajitas, de esta forma, me aseguro de no extraviar nada y las encuentro fácilmente.

Por estos días ya me venía haciendo falta un nuevo recipiente para almacenar figuritas pequeñas que utilizo en las manualidades, así que aprovecho la oportunidad para traerles este hermoso cofre con forma de barril hecho a partir de una lata, cartón y adornado con foami moldeable. Quería simular un barril de madera, de esos de fermentación, en los que almacenan el vino y para embellecerlo lo decoré con una planta de cerezas en la parte frontal y en la tapa. A continuación, les muestro como lo elaboré.

Step by step / Paso a paso

I used an empty condensed milk can as a base, placed it on top of a thick cardboard that I had recycled and marked its outline. I made two and cut them out, I kept them for later use.

Utilicé como base una lata de leche condensada vacía, la coloqué encima de un cartón grueso que tenía reciclado y marqué su contorno. Hice dos y los recorté, los guardé para posteriormente utilizarlos.

I marked and cut a half-centimeter wide cardboard strip and glued it with silicone along the bottom edge.

Marqué y recorté un listón de cartón de medio cm de ancho y lo pegué con silicona en todo el borde inferior.

Then I made 11 rectangles of thicker cardboard of 7x2 cm and glued them on top of the ribbon in such a way that they protrude half a cm at the top. These simulate the boards, the separation between one and the other is half a cm.

Luego hice 11 rectángulos de cartón más grueso de 7x2 cm y las fui pegando encima del listón de tal forma que sobresaliera medio cm en la parte de arriba. Estos simulan las tablas, la separación entre uno y otro es de medio cm.

Then I made two 2 cm wide cardboard strips to be placed horizontally surrounding the previous strips.

Después realicé dos listones de cartón de 2 cm de ancho para colocarlo horizontalmente rodeando los listones anteriores.

The two circles that I initially cut out, one I glue on the bottom and the other will be the lid, for this I made a smaller circle that I placed on top of the lid in this way.

Los dos círculos que recorté inicialmente, uno lo pego en el fondo y el otro será la tapa, para ello hice un circulo más pequeño que coloqué encima de la tapa de esta forma.

With pieces of disposable napkins and white liquid glue I began to line the barrel to give it a better finish when painting it, this will give it a little relief and will cover the details of the cardboard. I left it overnight to dry.

Así está conformado el barril, con pedazos de servilletas desechables y pegamento blanco líquido comencé a forrar el barril para darle un mejor acabado a la hora de pintarlo, esto le dará un poco de relieve y tapará los detalles del cartón. Lo dejé toda la noche para que secara.

The next day I started to paint it, I gave it a black color as a base. It dried quickly because I used vinyl paint.

Al día siguiente comencé a pintarlo, le di un color negro como base. Secó enseguida porque utilicé pintura de vinil.

I wanted to give it a wood color, but since I didn't have any carmelite paint, I mixed black with orange and little by little I obtained this color. I took a sponge and I gave soft touches until I got this effect like old wood. Then with orange nail polish with glitter I gave it a few brush strokes to give it a more visible look.

Quería darle un color madera, pero al no tener pintura carmelita, mezclé negro con naranja y poco a poco obtuve este color. Tomé una esponja y fui dando suaves toques hasta lograr este efecto como de madera vieja. Luego con pintura de uña naranja con brillo le di unos brochazos para darle más vista.

It was time to decorate, I used black, brown, green and red foami.

Llegó el momento de decorar, utilicé foami negro, carmelita, verde y rojo.

I mixed orange and black foami to form a color similar to that of the barrel and succeeded. I took a small piece of cork and lined it with it, then glued it with silicone to the lid. I did this to make it easier to grip the lid.

Mezcle foami naranja y negro para formar un color parecido al del barril y lo logré. Tomé un pedacito de corcho y lo forré con este, luego lo pegué con silicona a la tapa. Esto lo hice para facilitar el agarre de la tapa.

With this mixed foami, I made some small balls, flattened them and with a stake I made a cut in the center to simulate some screws.

Con este foami mezclado, hice unas pequeñas peloticas, las aplané y con una esteca le hice un corte en el centro para simular unos tornillos.

With the green foami I made leaves of different sizes and some very thin stems to make vines. I carefully glued them with silicone because the foami does not stick to the cardboard.

Con el foami verde formé unas hojas de diversos tamaños y unos tallitos bien finos para hacer unas enredaderas. Las pegué cuidadosamente con silicona porque el foami no pega en el cartón.

Finally, with red foami I made little balls like cherries, which I glued on top of the leaves, I made a hole in some of them to introduce the stem inside and make it look more natural.

Por último, con foami rojo realicé unas bolitas como cerezas, las cuales pegué encima de las hojas, a algunas les hice un orificio para introducir el tallo dentro y que se viera más natural.

And now my barrel-shaped chest is ready, I loved how it turned out, beautiful, don't believe it, I spent two days making it, but it was worth the effort. I now have a new place to put my figurines. You can keep inside whatever you want and use the lid or not, it can be used as a pencil or makeup organizer, just remove the lid. Y ya está listo mi cofre en forma de barril, me encantó como quedó, hermoso, no creen, pasé dos días en su confección, pero valió la pena el esfuerzo.
