Wednesday Walk in Praia de São Lourenço, Ericeira - Portugal [Eng-Pt]
Located in the World Surfing Reserve, São Lourenço Beach is known and recognized for its challenging waves.
On a day when I had a walk to do along the Safarujo River, I decided to go early and take advantage of the morning chill to relax and breathe in the fresh sea air.
I have always loved walking on the beach, but unfortunately, despite not living far from the coast, I don't always do it as often as I would like.
This beach, besides being a protected beach, has more natural characteristics. From the slopes, the cliffs, the extensive sandy beach, and of course the sea... That enormous sea that brings us energy and inner renewal like few other things can.
As I had almost an hour to myself, I decided to go to the middle of the sand. At that moment, there was only one woman walking her dog, and no one else... The shy sun peeked through the rocks and gradually warmed the sand, which was still cold from a winter night.
The sand, which was coarser than that of the beaches near my home, made a rustling sound when stepped on. I didn't dare take off my shoes, because I was going to walk straight away and then there would be no way to remove the sand from my feet... But I confess that I was eager to rest and walk along the sand...
This beach, like others in the region, is well known to surfers and bodyboarders. But only the most experienced venture onto this beach. Unfortunately, at the end of March 2021, Filipe Henriques, better known as “Rastef,” aged 37, lost his life to a stroke. He was a surfer who was much loved by the local population and well known. He passed away doing something he loved, leaving behind two children...
But I don't want this slightly sadder note to cast a shadow over my words. We should do what we love most. It is inevitable that one day we will cease to be part of this reality, and there should be nothing better than doing what we love most. We must enjoy life. We mustn't put things off until tomorrow, or let the fear of doing something stop us from moving forward.
On this last day of the year, we should always be aware that the life we have will not last forever. We should try to do our best. And we should let our emotions flow. We should not be concerned with doing something just so that others will look at us with admiration or even “envy.”
At the end of the tour, back in the parking lot, I found a very cute toy with lots of details. It was a deer, which I ended up giving to a boy who has a little daughter.
I hope that 2026 will bring us all enough opportunities to be the best versions of ourselves ever!

Num dia em que tinha uma caminhada para fazer pelo curso do Rio Safarujo, decidi ir mais cedo, e aproveitar o frio matinal para descontrair e respirar o ar puro da praia.
Sempre gostei muito de passear na praia, mas infelizmente, e apesar de não morar muito longe da linha costeira, nem sempre o faço com a regularidade que gostaria.
Esta praia, para além de ser uma praia que é protegida, e que tem características mais naturais. Desde as encostas, as escarpas, o extenso areal, e claro o mar... Esse enorme mar que nos trás uma energia e uma renovação interna como poucas coisas o conseguem fazer.
Como tinha quase uma hora só para mim, decidi ir para o meio do areal. Nessa altura, apenas estava uma mulher a passear o seu cão, e ninguém mais... o sol tímido, fazia-se aparecer por entre as rochas, e pouco a pouco ia aquecendo a areia que ainda estava fria de uma noite de inverno.
A areia, esta mais grossa que a das praias perto da minha casa, entoava um murmúrio ao ser pisada. Não tive coragem de tirar os sapatos, pois como ia caminhar de seguida, depois não tinha maneira de remover a areia dos pés... Mas confesso que fiquei cheio de vontade de me descansar e andar pelo areal...
Esta praia, bem como as outras desta região são muito conhecidas por quem pratica o surf e o body-board. Mas apenas quem é mais experiente é que se aventura nesta praia. Infelizmente, e no fim de Março de 2021, Filipe Henriques, mais conhecido por "Rastef", com 37 anos viria a perder a sua vida, vítima de um AVC. Era um surfista muito adorado pela população local, e sobejamente conhecido. Partiu a fazer algo que gostava muito, deixando dois filhos...
Mas não quero com esta nota, um pouco mais triste, deixar uma sombra nas minhas palavras. Devemos fazer o que mais gostamos. É inevitável que um dia deixemos de fazer parte desta realidade, e não deve haver nada melhor, do que estarmos a fazer o que gostamos mais de fazer. Há que aproveitar a vida. Não deixar para amanhã, ou deixarmos que o receio de fazer algo, nos leve a ficar parados.
Neste último dia do ano, deveremos sempre ter a noção que a vida que temos, que não durar para sempre. Devemos tentar fazer o nosso melhor. E devemos deixar fluir as emoções. Não devemos estar preocupados em fazer algo só para que os outros nos olhem com admiração ou mesmo "inveja".
No fim do passeio, e já no parque de estacionamento, acabei por encontrar um brinquedo muito engraçado e cheio de pormenores. Um cervo que acabei por ofertar a um rapaz que tem uma filhota pequenina.
Espero que 2026 nos traga a todos oportunidades suficientes para sermos melhores versões de sempre!
