#Monomad Challenge - Celebration of life
Good morning, #Monomad friends
Here is my entry for the #monomad contest by @brumest and @monochromes.
I recently had the opportunity to attend a live performance by a group of female drummers from Cape Verde. This group, made up exclusively of women, keeps a Cape Verdean regional tradition alive. Although they use only their voices and hands to produce strong rhythms with the help of a small cloth wheel or a small cushion, they leave no one indifferent. I confess that when I was in the audience, I felt relieved that I had not been invited to join in the dancing, because although I was thoroughly enjoying the show, I am somewhat shy...
It is wonderful to see that even today, there are those who value and continue to keep alive the ancient traditions of certain cultures, peoples and regions.
A massification of cultural offerings, with a homogenization of supply, only leads to these true gems of our culture being lost in time...
The joy that these women spread outwardly often contrasts sharply with the tribulations they may experience. The tradition of batuque emerged as a way of expiating fears and worries at a time when slavery still existed. Women would gather on full moon nights to celebrate the gift of life. The dance. The rhythms. The songs. Everything contributes to celebrating the true miracle of life.
