#Monomad Challenge - An old habit

Welcome to my #Monomad Challenge post for the 5th of December

The path that each person takes can always be decided of their own free will. We often find ourselves doing things almost instinctively, without thinking. The weekend I was visiting my goddaughter and her parents, she had to go to the Eucharist because her catechist had asked her to do so, as it would be a special celebration for the children who attend catechesis.

I found myself reminiscing about my childhood, where I mechanically followed gestures, postures, movements, prayers and creeds... Everything was automatic, mixed with a normal hum, almost like what you hear when you're near a beehive... you know? That's what it sounded like when I went to church with my grandmother and heard the rosary recited in an intoxicating way, oblivious to the strong meaning of the words, phrases and prayers.

Nowadays, I don't usually go to Mass every week. I did until just before the pandemic. Since the middle of 2020, I found that I didn't feel welcome within four walls. I prefer to say my prayers when I wake up early in the morning, or as I zigzag past the parked cars on my daily route to the gym.

The fact that intrinsically the words spoken, and repeated, are not put into practice, has somehow started to make me think a little more about the question of religion.

Like any process, it's nothing you can say is over, or that you won't go back on your word or decision.

What about you? Do you have a strong spirituality? Are you in the habit of coming together as a community to pray? I like the fact that there is a community, but with Taizé as a model, it's very complicated when in my country I listen to a Mass where care is taken to convey the true Word of God clearly and unequivocally?

One day, who knows, when the fear of dying settles in my mind and soul, something will convert me and leave me unable to think differently... Entering into hypnotic vain ritualisation.

I hope I haven't bored you with this topic. It's not an easy issue for me, but I like to think about it and talk about it with others.
