Loud Silence! - CCC's Street Art Contest #165

And then it finally "arrived". I pass this free piece of art every day on my way home from work. And every time I drive along Estrada Pedro Teixeira, in the parish of Ajuda, in Lisbon - Portugal, there's always a glance at this graffiti which, although it doesn't speak... look at the gag in the monk's mouth, leaves you deafened with the message it has been conveying for many years. I remember seeing this graffiti for the first time about seven years ago, and I know it's no longer "new". A while ago, when I realised that Vila Maria da Luz had been walled off - that is, that the small houses within the village will surely be demolished to make way for a more modern and lucrative development - my urgency to report back to this community grew... I knew in my subconscious that a day would come when I would pass that way and the wall that is the canvas of this art would be down, or worse... not even be there to witness something that was part of such a strong message today. Sometimes we have to raise our voices, and not by shouting, but by being silent... There are silences that become absolutely deafening, and in that way become more than annoying. Let's allow the silences that exist around us to take us to places that are sometimes very far away, like the one suggested in this work of air - Tibite, but always bearing in mind that the painful silence could be right next to us.

A neighbor who calls for company, and we insist on just saying "Hello neighbor, good morning! How are you?" and we don't even bother to listen or read his expression when he answers us... Sometimes we become machines in this mechanized life that is less and less social or empathetic, justifying our attention only to what gives us instant gratification... Social networks, which are hardly social at all, know how to stimulate our Dopamine levels... Which clitoris or glans is more important than our ego and immediate satisfaction? Let's try to take a closer look at our surroundings and stop being driven by intoxicating TikToks or likes on a s**t network... Excuse me for venting, but it seems that imposing our conscience is no longer compatible with listening to our neighbor and respecting difference, or the fact that there is no difference! Today, only what is different is valued. Have you thought about this?

Excuse my "bad temper", but today I was horrified by yet another conflict that imploded a few thousand kilometers from my country. Knowing that civilians are being used as bargaining chips, martyred, killed just so that a religion can be justified by extreme and senseless violence (as it always is), makes the depths of my being very distant from this increasingly unreal reality!

I'd like to share with you a link with photos from when the Vila Maria da Luz
wasn't yet walled up.

As well as the artist in question and the author of this work of art. His name is SEBS or Mauro Carmelino. And you can visit some of his work in the next link from the great site Brooklyn Street Art
SEBS

And now I'll leave you with a song I like, which, although it has nothing to do with the silence I'm talking about, leaves me energized for the week that begins tomorrow!

I hope you liked my post in the StreetArtCommunity

Cool work with a strong message. Incredible that it's been on this wall for so long. That's rare in StreetArt. The message has to be appreciated. Don't be sorry, we don't know how to "live" anymore, just saying hello to the neighbors doesn't cost anything.

Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Have a great day
