CCC's Street Art Contest # 256 - "Cristóvão Colombo" - Mr. Dheo - Ilha de Porto Santo, Portugal [Eng-Pt]

Welcome to another post in the Street Art community!
Today I want to share a mural that was painted on the wall of the Porto Santo Town Hall.
The island, which was discovered in 1418 by João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira, a year before the discovery of the island of Madeira, which is only a few kilometers away, surprised the discoverers with its sandy soil, very poor in nutrients, despite its proximity to the Pearl of the Atlantic (the name commonly given to the island of Madeira). The Golden Island, by which name it is widely known, is only about 9 km long, but it is nonetheless well known for its fantastic beaches, gastronomy and the friendliness of its people (source).
On one of my trips to this island, I came across a mural measuring around 100 square meters painted on the walls of the town hall.
This mural, alluding to Christopher Columbus, is justified by his alleged presence on the island for approximately two years.
Christopher Columbus married Filipa de Moniz, daughter of the first captain of Porto Santo, around 1479 to 1480, in Lisbon. In the following two years, there are records of him passing through the island of Madeira, which is thought to have contributed to his nautical training. Porto Santo was a point that was often used as a stopover, due to its geographical location, and with this function, it was used by the renowned navigator as a stopover point on his third voyage to America, which took place in 1498 (source).
The artist who made this mural at the invitation of the municipality goes by the pseudonym Mr. Dheo. He was born in Porto and has always had a strong connection to art from a very young age. He was only three years old when he started copying phrases he read in newspapers and magazines, as well as drawing on his own. He never undertook any training in the arts and was self-taught until the age of fifteen, when his work stood out for its mastery.
A few months later he did his first street work, and several friends and work colleagues encouraged him to continue and develop his art.
Two decades later, he still has a passion for his work and has already spread his work to more than fifty cities around the world.
He has also collaborated with a number of brands, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Binance (link)!!!
From this fantastic island, I bring you a unique piece of work, which there won't be many of around here, as graffiti art has not yet established itself in this natural tourist paradise.

Para hoje quero aqui partilhar um mural que foi pintado numa parede da Câmara Municipal de Porto Santo.
A ilha, que foi descoberta em 1418 por João Gonçalves Zarco e Tristão Vaz Teixeira, um ano antes da descoberta da ilha da Madeira, que fica a muitos poucos quilômetros de distância, surpreendeu os descobridores pelos seus terrenos arenosos, e muito pobres em nutrientes, apesar da sua proximidade com a Pérola do Atlántico (nome comummente dado à Ilha da Madeira). A Ilha Dourada, nome por qual é muito conhecida, apenas tem cerca de 9 km de extensão, mas não deixa de ser muito reconhecida pelas suas fantásticas praias, gastronomia e a simpatia do seu povo (fonte).
Numa das minhas viagens a esta ilha, deparei-me com um mural com cerca de 100 metros quadrados pintado nas paredes do edifício da Câmara Municipal.
Este mural, alusivo a Cristóvão Colombo, é justificado, pela sua alegada presença na ilha, durante aproximadamente dois anos.
Cristóvão Colombo casou-se com Filipa de Moniz, filha do primeiro capitão donatário de Porto Santo por volta de 1479 a 1480, na cidade de Lisboa. Nos seguintes dois anos, há registos da sua passagem pela ilha da Madeira, o que se julga que terá contribuido para a sua formação nautica. Porto Santo era um ponto que era frequentemente usado como uma escala, pela sua localização geográfica, e com essa função, foi usada pelo renomeado e reconhecido navegador como ponto de escala na sua terceira viagem à America, que aconteceu pelo ano de 1498 (fonte).
O artista que fez este mural ao convite da autarquia, tem pseudônimo de Mr. Dheo. Nasceu no Porto, e desde muito novo sempre teve uma forte ligação à arte. Tinha apenas três anos de idade quando começou a copiar frases que lia nos jornais e revistas, bem como a desenhar já sozinho. Nunca enveredou por uma formação em Artes, sendo autodidata até aos seus quinze anos de idade, onde o seu trabalho se destacou pela sua mestria.
Poucos meses mais tarde fez o seu primeiro trabalho de rua, e vários amigos e colegas de trabalho, incentivaram a continuar e a desenvolver a sua arte.
Duas décadas depois, continua a ter uma paixão pelo seu trabalho, tendo já espalhado o seu trabalho por mais de cinquenta cidades do mundo inteiro.
A sua colaboração passa também por algumas marcas, que contam com ele, nomeadamente Cristiano Ronaldo e a Binance (link)!!!
De esta ilha fantástica, levo-vos um trabalho único, que não haverá muitos por aqueles lados, pois a arte do graffiti ainda não se estabeleceu naquele paraíso natural turistico.
