CCC's Street Art Contest #249 "Amália Rodrigues" - Odeith - Amadora, Portugal [Eng-Pt]
Good morning, friends!
Welcome to another post in the Street Art community!
Today I'd like to show you a very impressive mural painted by a well-known national artist by the name of Sérgio “Odeith”. Born in 1976 in a neighboring town, Damaia, he became known from an early age for his impressive work.
Here in this community I have already shared another work by this same artist, in which he illustrated the artist Bob Marley.
He is well known for his anamorphic painting technique, where we can see an almost three-dimensional perspective of his works. This technique led him to become known as “Somber 3D”!
On one of my trips to Lisbon, I had to take the subway because a general strike had been called for that day and for the rest of the week. I can tell you that this strike caused a lot of inconvenience for many people. I chose to drive to the Metro station closest to my house, and from there I took the metro to my final destination. When I got back to the parking lot, I noticed that there was a badly parked car, which prevented me from getting mine out. I contacted the Municipal Police, who came to the scene, but due to the disorganized parking of many cars, they couldn't get the tow truck there to help me.
Completely dependent on luck to get my car out of there, I decided to explore the surrounding buildings. It's not often that I walk around that part of town, and I ended up being surprised by a mural the size of the plumb line of a suburban building!
The artist has made a fantastic representation of one of the world's most renowned Portuguese artists of all time. If there are any Portuguese who are recognized all over the world, including Japan, it's Amália Rodrigues and footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.
Amália Rodrigues was a Portuguese singer, fado singer and actress who made a mark on society. She is known as the Queen of Fado (a musical style that developed mainly in Lisbon at the end of the 19th century and is usually sung by one person accompanied by a classical guitar and a Portuguese guitar). Fado derives from the Latin word “Fatum” which means Fate. It's a very particular musical style, which was already considered Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011.
Amália was certainly an ambassador for Fado, Portugal and Portuguese culture throughout the world. She died at the age of 79, in 1999, and will forever be known as one of Portugal's most acclaimed singers.
Here's a link to one of her songs, so that you too can get to know this musical style and the artist herself.
PS: After half an hour, the driver of another vehicle parked next to mine appeared, not the one that was blocking my exit, but who made it possible to get mine out, after some very tight maneuvers... Anyway. I've learned that if I ever have to park my car in these parts, and on a day when public transport is on strike, I should do so, but I shouldn't allow anyone to block my car!
That was a lesson!

Totally. I was so stressed about the fact that I could leave the place because of my car, but then, by seeing this great canvas, my mind found a little bit of reward and distraction for the immediate reality!
Thank you for your comment, Marilour!
¡Les deseo una semana fantástica!
Stunning tribute, so beautiful. I was the one who blocked your car to force you to take a few photos of this mural 😂 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
Have a wonderful day
You should picked up the call that the Police made to your mobile, and not pretending that you didn't listen! Ahahah
Laughed so loud with your comment! 😂
Odeith has outdone himself with his Somber 3D portrait of the great Amália.
Thank you for your appreciation, neblomax!
