Pitty’s aural hematoma scare

Sunday gave us quite a scare around here. My canine cousin Pitty had to undergo an emergency surgery and left everyone with their hearts in knots ONCE AGAIN. The diagnosis was an aural hematoma, which happens when a dog ends up with blood collecting in the ear due to scratching or shaking their head too much. This causes painful swelling, and the only way to fully resolve it is surgery, so the accumulated blood can be drained properly.

She went into surgery late in the morning and, to our relief, by early evening she was already back home. It was such a huge relief to see that little face again, even with the famous “lampshade” — the Elizabethan collar — that will be part of her days for a while. Now her routine will be intense once more… for 18 days, every other day, Pitty will have to go to the clinic to change her ear bandage and make sure everything heals nicely.

And since she was already under anesthesia, she also got a thorough tartar cleaning — so she came out of surgery not only with her ear taken care of, but also with a refreshed smile!

This was already the second scare Pitty gave us this year, and we can only hope it will be the last, right, little one? Even so, she keeps showing how much of a fighter she is, full of energy and life. At home, she’s being spoiled with all the love in the world from my godmother and uncle — with a cozy blanket, endless cuddles, a lap always available, and of course, lots of “congratulations for being so strong.”

Now it’s just a matter of cheering her on and following this recovery closely, which we’re confident will be a smooth one.

Domingo foi dia de susto por aqui. A minha prima canina Pitty precisou passar por uma cirurgia de emergência e deixou todo mundo de coração apertado DE NOVO. O diagnóstico foi otohematoma, que é quando o cachorro acaba acumulando sangue na orelha por causa de coceiras ou quando balança muito a cabeça. Isso causa um inchaço grande e dolorido, e a única forma de resolver de vez é com cirurgia, pra poder drenar esse sangue que acumulou ali dentro...

Ela entrou no centro cirúrgico no fim da manhã e, pra nossa alegria, já no início da noite estava de volta pra casa. Foi um alívio enorme ver essa carinha de novo, mesmo com o famoso “abajur” — o colar elizabetano — acompanhando os próximos dias dela. Agora a rotina vai ser intensa mais uma vez... por 18 dias, dia sim e dia não, a Pitty vai precisar ir à clínica pra trocar o curativo da orelha e garantir que tudo cicatrize direitinho.

E já que estava sedada, aproveitou também pra fazer uma boa limpeza de tártaro — saiu da cirurgia não só com a orelhinha cuidada, mas também com o sorriso renovado!

Esse já foi o segundo susto que a Pitty deu na gente esse ano, e a gente só pede que seja o último, né mocinha? Mesmo assim, ela segue mostrando o quanto é guerreira e cheia de energia. Em casa, está recebendo todo o carinho do mundo da minha madrinha e do meu tio, com direito a cobertor quentinho, cafuné sem fim, colo sempre disponível e claro, muitos “parabéns por ser tão forte”.

Agora é torcer e acompanhar de pertinho essa recuperação, que temos certeza que vai ser tranquila.
