Everyone’s Talking About The Summer I Turned Pretty... Worth Watching or Nah?

I’m honestly not really into TV series adaptations from novels. The last time I watched something like this was way back during Twilight, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, I was 8 years old back then, and I really ended up finishing all the Twilight movies because of my auntie, who is a fan. CDs or copies were very trendy before, so it was easy for her to watch those.
But now, while scrolling on my TikTok FYP, I kept seeing short clips and edits that kept popping up. I was like, “Who are these Conrad and Jeremiah?” And because I saw so many of those edits, I finally thought, “Fine, let me try watching this.”
And so, this is what I ended up doing for almost a week while I was healing. Oh, I haven’t even told you what series I watched yet! I’m sure some of you have already seen it since it went viral on TikTok—clips of it were everywhere, gaining thousands of likes and even millions of views, thanks to those super talented editors who know how to influence viewers to watch. The series is “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which is actually an adaptation of Jenny Han’s novel book.
Before I started watching the first season of this series, I already prepared myself because I knew there would be some unexpected scenes (I had already seen a few of them in clips). So, I thought I wouldn’t be too surprised anymore if there were other "chuchus" that happened. Well… I’m already an adult. Twenty-five years of existence in this world means I’m definitely not a minor anymore, right? Besides, I’ll just consider these as “educational purposes,” since I’m not really good at dating—especially at flirting. Oh my God, what am I even saying right now? 🙄😂
In my first experience watching the first season of this series, I really enjoyed the humorous side of the characters. I also found it amusing how they talk about their parents or even call them by their first names, like it’s no big deal. Is that really part of their culture? Because if I did that here, my grandparents would probably chop my tongue off for being disrespectful to the elders. 😂
One of the first characters I instantly liked in season one was this duo.
Their friendship is just so cool and hilarious—they’re true besties!

And guess what? I totally fell in love with Sean Kaufman here because he’s so handsome! Watching him made me feel like I went back to my teenage years all over again.

I forgot that some countries still have places like this. Isn’t it romantic to watch a movie while sitting inside your car? You have your own little world—privacy, freedom to laugh, cry, scream, and talk as loud as you want.

Oh my God! I just want to clarify—I don’t hate Black people at all. They’re beautiful, and I have so much respect for them. I just really can’t stand her character in this movie! It’s not about her as a person, but her role really makes my blood boil.

I used to play games like this too! I honestly don’t even remember how I learned it, but I always end up winning on the Plato app whenever I play with some acquaintances. Just sharing! 😆

Okay, so I told you I was preparing myself because some of the scenes were rated SPG—but still, I was shocked! Like, wait a second... I just need to confirm this first: is dating in the U.S. really like this in real life? You can just make out or kiss your boyfriend or girlfriend in public, or even in front of your family—especially your parents? Someone please explain! Welp~ 😭
There were so many shocking scenes in this series that my brain almost couldn’t keep up! But don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything for you. I just shared one screenshot above as an example—believe me, that one image already says a lot.

Anyway, if I were to join the trend about who my favorite character is, I’d definitely pick Steven and Taylor. After watching all three seasons, they’re literally the only sane and decent people in the whole show. They’re not toxic they actually think rationally. The rest? Nope. Not even the female lead—I just can’t. 😂
| For me, the story of this series is not a good one, but I still finished watching it until the end because of my favorite Staylor couple. Yeah, they are just the only two reasons that make me continue watching it. I don't really get the hype of the choosing between Conrad and Jeremiah trend on TikTok, like who the female girl would end up with. The story is not worth the hype. The ladies are just blinded because of the triangle thing between those three. They also neglect to pay attention to those red flags. But anyway, I also read a comment before that some of the parts in this series are not totally from the book. I guess I need to read the novel because I think it is better compared to the adaptation. But my problem is, let me see if the website where I download some soft copies of books that I am reading has a copy too. |
