I've always wondered why every skincare product I see has the name "Collagen" because as far as I know collagen is one of the protein ingredients found in foods such as beef or eggs, and I thought maybe this collagen has benefits for the skin, so this substance included into beauty products. In this post, I will share information about collagen, its functions, uses, and side effects for the human body.


About Collagen


Collagen is one of the insoluble natural proteins that can be produced in large quantities by the human body, unlike other essential proteins which are not produced by the body.

Collagen has the function of maintaining healthy skin, muscles, bones, and several other benefits for the body, that is one of the reasons why collagen is widely used as an ingredient in beauty products because it can help treat and maintain healthy skin. Because it has many benefits for the skin, collagen is one of the substances that is widely used by women who want to make their skin moist, bright, and tight, because as we get older, collagen in the body decreases, we need to make enough of it by using skincare products that contain collagen or fill it up by consuming foods that contain collagen like beef, eggs, chicken, fish, and several types of vegetables or fruit.

The collagen content in a person's body increases with age, there will be a decrease which can cause aging like wrinkles, sagging skin, and bone and joint pain. Apart from the age factor, several things also cause a decrease in natural collagen production, like eating excess sugar or high carbohydrate foods. Also, an unhealthy lifestyle can reduce collagen production, so try to keep it while you are young by adopting a healthy lifestyle because the benefits will be felt longer and some of the negative effects can be slowed down.

Collagen is also available in the form of special collagen injections which are provided by many beauty clinics with an uncomplicated process, but the costs are more expensive than supplements or foods high in collagen.

Therefore it is important for us to meet the needs of collagen or other important nutrients by eating healthy, minimally processed foods, taking care of it from an early age will be better than having to spend more money in the future just for collagen injections which may not necessarily give perfect results. Taking collagen supplements must be according to the prescribed dosage or ask a doctor or nutritionist before using any type of collagen, because consuming collagen in excess will cause several effects in the body, like allergic reactions, digestive disorders, diarrhea, and the worst can cause kidney stones due to increased levels of oxalic acid in the body.
