One Day Food Adventure at My Hometown

Greeting fellow Hivers! I am Iris from Indonesia and this is the first time I tried posting at Asean Hive. For you that usually support me at Ladies of Hive and Actifit, I hope you will like my entries here as well. My work and daily life makes me often traveling in several cites at East Java, Indonesia but due to Eid holiday, me and my little family stayed at my hometown, Malang.

I decided to write here because I missed writing my journal but couldn't get enough tracking at ecency because most of the time I didn't bring my phone lol. It's holiday and I just can't get bothered though I visited some interesting places. But that's for another story, because today I will take you to my foodies adventure at Malang.

Me and my husband decided to begin with some Korean food today. I was planning to visit this small restaurant because the owner is a Korean Chef who live here. The interior was interesting, simple but the vibes are very Korean. It was almost like a small eatery in the middle rows of big restaurants in one of main road of Malang.

We ordered a jajangmyon (a noodle with black soybean sauce), kimbab (rice roll filled with some veggie aand assorted meat), honey chicken, and kimchi. It was good, taste pretty auntentic I guess, and the kimchi was very delicious that we ended up ordered more to be taken home.

I was pretty full but my friend invited me to try a new eatery that specialized in pork cuisine. Being a pork lover, we just couldn't resist. It was rained pretty hard when we arrived so the mood to devour delicious food came back. My friend ordered a pork platter that serve 6 kind of pork cuisine, so yum! We got traditional pork roast, and sweet red pork, along with so cuisine that I didn't know the name. However, everything were delicious and we eat them with saute veggies, (chinese pickled mustard and bean sprouts) that was so refreshing and plain noodle.

I thought my belly will exploded but it was very satisfying. It was served with some traditional sambal (not very Chinese I know, but somehow it works) which was very fresh, tangy, and spicy. The eatery itself was a regular house that used its veranda as eating place for guest. Very homey and humble, and a little tricky to find but worth every bite.

I was still full for dinner actually, but my foodie husband still want to eat so we opted for local food this time. We visited a pretty nice restaurant that specialized in seafood. The ambiance was nice, with an open eating area in its lush garden, hence the name "Ocean Garden" Really suit this restaurant. Since the weather is cool after the short rain, we picked outdoor seat in the middle of the garden.

My hubby is a big eater and he was in the mood of some fish, so we got fried Gurame, grilled tuna with sweet soy sauce, saute veggie and fried egglplants, and rice. I know it was a lot, we ended up get the rest of the fish to be taken home. It was quite cheap for a big fish, only around $4 USD for a portion with a fresh and juicy meat.

I was so full when we arrived home, but since everything was delicious, I didn't regret at all. We spent about $40 for all of the meal, but I am glad we can scratch those food bucket list that we always plan to try but never got time.
