Upgraded 2024|| Fake It Till You Make It.
So far, I've seen two movies that were released in the year 2024 and I have absolutely loved them both. I hope this standard is maintained throughout the year and in years to come.
Source
I recently got a few movie and upgraded happened to be part of them. From the title, I thought it was going to be a movie about robots, AI or something in the line but well, it wasn't.
About The Movie
A passion driven and aspiring art intern is finally invited by her boss on a last minute work trip to London. Things start off pretty bad but upon getting upgraded and meeting a charming stranger, things begin to fall in place.
Upgraded is romance comedy film directed by Carlson Young. The film which spans for an hour and forty-four minutes was released on the 9th of February, 2024. I just love it when I review recently released movies.
Cast
Camila Mendes as Ana
Camilla is one very beautiful actress and she acted the role of Ana. Ana was the very broke art intern who wanted a life for herself. Eventually, she realized that she had to make herself visible and that is exactly what she did.
Archie Renaux as Williams
Williams happened to be the handsome stranger that Ana met on the plane to London. She mistakenly spilled her wine on him and they became friends afterwards. Spill some wine on anyone in my country and get ready for a mouthful.
Marisa Tomei as Claire Dupont
Claire was the boss and she acted as it. She played the part of the strict perfectionists who wanted everything to go as planned at all times. However, the viewers got a glimpse of who the real Claire was and it turns out that she was a hardworking lady who works tooths and nails just to get what she wants. Sad reality.
Lena Olin as Catherine Laroche
I totally loved the character Catherine right from the first scene she appeared in. Catherine was a rich jovial lady and William's mother. She was so filled with life and energy. Certainly someone you can rapport with effortlessly.
Anthony Head as Julian Marx
Julian was another jovial character who happened to be Catherine's partner. There is no way one would stay with this couple and feel sad or lonely.
There are really subtle lessons to pick out from the movie but I would be placing the spotlight of three important ones I picked out. First..
The beauty of Art
It is no doubt that art lovers could see the beauty in just anything. An art lover could see a swan in a painting when the rest of the world sees just a splatter of random colours on a canvas.
There was a scene where Ana asked William what he thought of a painting. He tried finding the right words but they just wouldn't come so he said what every random person would say, “its beautiful”. Personally, I looked at the painting and it was shaped like a banana but with blue colour instead of yellow. What meaning could possibly be drawn from that? Don't get me wrong, I love art in all it's glory but some artworks are just meh.
When you see something, say something.
Many things go wrong in the world because people saw something but decided to keep shut about it. An example would be the sinking of titanic. I think that people who actually speak up when they see that something is amiss are actually really brilliant people.
Ana portrayed this brilliance in one of the scenes. She noticed that there was a mistake with the name of one of the paintings that were being auctioned and she summoned up courage to step forward and correct it. Not everyone would do that, especially if you were specifically asked to stay out of sight by your boss.
Bad Things Happen For A Reason.
This is one realization I have recently come to accept and this movie just confirmed it for me. Bad thing happen for a good reason but sometimes we are too caught up in the negative that we turn a blind eye to the goodness.
Once again, Ana was trampled upon by her boss' assistants. During the course of this trampling, she found favour in the eyes of others and that was where she met the man of her dreams or “a 10” like she called him.
My Opinion
I enjoyed every part of this rom com film. Every scene had both a glaring and a subtle meaning to it. Although it was obvious that the two love birds Ana and William would end up together, I liked every bonding act that lead to their imminent love.
The fake it till you make it part of the movie gave me something to think about. It is no news that some people actually fake it. They fake their lifestyle and they pray that they do not get caught. Some people actually go to the right places, meet the right people and eventually, they make it! Others are not so lucky as they get caught and are possibly reprimanded for their actions.
Nonetheless, Ana showed the reason why some peopem actually fake it in life. It's not a good thing to do of course but some people can't just help it.
Recommendation
Truthfully, I would say that Upgraded was a great watch for me. I liked the plot of the movie very much and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. If you have nothing against romcoms them you certainly wouldn't regret watching it.

Sounds like an interesting movie but doesn't really look like a movie I would jump at instantly. I will find time to see it.
