Sunbeams In Small Moments.

Somehow, days tend to fly by faster whenever there is a set goal and this is supposed to be a great thing because this way, you get to achieve your goals faster. Right? I would beg to differ on this because sometimes we tend to even forget about the goal we're chasing when the days become utterly unbearable. I can remember a few times when I had to sit back and ponder upon the reason why I'm stressing myself so much. Then, my evaluation ends with the fact that there's a goal that needs to be achieved.

Lucky for me, I have had more good days than bad ones but this doesn't make me ignore the little things that create a spark in my mind or put a smile on my face when going through a day. Being observative isn't a feature I recently picked up and as such, I always make a subtle and minute mental note whenever I fully accept that something or someone has made my day.

Tons of things, irrespective of how big or how small they are, can easily make my day and I'd be taking today for instance. A friend visited me at home today after lectures and we were basically just doing our thing. She was reading a novel on her phone and I was trying to cover up some materials. We took a lunch break and soon enough we were back to doing what we were doing initially.

For a moment, I was astounded because this particular friend of mine is never quiet. There is always something she's willing to talk about and so, out of the blue I said "You're awfully quiet and peaceful today. That's strange". If only I had kept quiet! It felt like she was waiting for me to make this statement. With the speed of light, she sprang to where I was seated and started updating me with the latest gist. I love chit chatting but not on days when I have so much work to do.

We gisited for a few minutes and it was time to get back to what I was doing but the young lady clearly wasn't done gisting even after I suggested that we continue later. With this, I was forced to use the oldest method in history–a tickle– and to my utmost surprise, it worked. Who is still ticklish in this century?

This girl laughed for five minutes straight. I was honestly speechless. I didn't know that one mild tickle could make someone laugh that hard. The laughter was obviously contagious and soon enough I found myself laughing for no valid reason. This particular scenario and everything encompassed in it made my day. It gave me some form of relief because after the laughing spree, I went back to what I was doing with a clearer and more receptive mind. I also learnt never to tickle this particular friend again. Never.

Some other things that could easily make my day would include;

Unexpected acts of kindness that light up ordinary moments. This particular gesture can easily make my day as it is mostly very unexpected and that's the best part of it all.

Realising that I'm with my earpods and a bottle of water usually makes my day. This way, I could block away the unnecessary and unhealthy noise pollution, drink water and mind my fluffing business.

Another thing that effortlessly makes my day is "finding a forgotten note, gift or celebration card that I probably tossed somewhere a decade back. I tend to always keep such items safely irrespective of the circumstance. So whenever I'm probably having a terrible day and I'm actively searching for something, the appearance of such items that have emotional values attached to them would brighten my day.

To reiterate, there are a thousand and one things that could make my day and a majority of these things or actions are usually spontaneous and totally unexpected. I feel that spontaneity has a major role to play because I could easily forget that I was going through a material because it's part of what I do daily but I wouldn't easily forget that my friend almost laughed her gut out one hot afternoon because it made a part of my day fun.

Love 🤍

I can totally relate to how a little gesture just like that ticklish laughter could make one's day, also finding an old item that is dear to you, it's so busy these days that we almost don't have time to create something special, thankfully, we have little things that matter.
