Needlework Your Jeans contest|| Upcyling An Old Pair of Jean Trouser
Hello Everyone ☺️
I must admit that I'm really thrilled about this post and its entirety. Two weeks ago, a contest was featured in the #needlweworkmonday community and the first thing I said to myself was "how would I make a jeans and crochet combination". All of the needlework I've done so far were made with yarns and yarns alone.Either way, I was really excited about this contest. It would be the first if it's kind that I would be participating in,so you can imagine the initial excitement I was filled with.
For about a week, I was thrown into a state of distress as I didn't know what to do. The thing is, different ideas kept coming but I couldn't get myself to settle for one. I remained in this state for a week and some days. Eventually, after over twenty sketches and tons of torn paper laying about, I finally came up with a design.
The idea was to upcycle one of my old jean trousers and so I got to work. I've had this jean trouser for about a year and after a while, I got tired of wearing it. This was because of how bland and vipid it looked.
I had the idea all figured out but the challenge is always turning the idea into a reality. Since this project was going to have a floral motif I decided to pick eye-catching colours. Red and yellow colours can be really shouty so the green colour was just the perfect toner.
It took a while but I eventually brought my idea to life. This may come as a shocker but I used a rubber yarn needle for this project and that was one reason why I was so slow and frustrated. One thing I realised while on this project is that " you cannot be a crocheter and lack patience ". Crocheting is an art and arts require patience
With the floral pattern in front, I decided to make another floral pattern for the back pockets. I really liked how the flower at the back gave the rear of the trouser a different look.
It can be amusing what a little touch-up and floral pattern can do to a jean trouser.
After taking a few pictures, I sent one of them to my sister who knows almost every piece of clothing in my closet and asked if she could recognize the trousers. The answer was no, I guess that is a good thing. It wouldn't have been an upcycled piece if people could still recognize it at first sight. Right?.
I'm really happy that I was able to finalise this project. Honestly, there was a point where I was at the brink of giving up. I was ready to drop my crocheting hook and possibly do something less tasking but then my fervour didn't let me. I really wanted to see how well this would turn out in the end and I most definitely have.
It looks really pretty to me. How about you? What do you think of the new look? Is there anything I would or wouldn't have done? I would love to hear your views and suggestions.
In the meantime, do have a lovely Monday☺️
