Book Review: Keep It In The Family.
The darling Teknon recommended this book to me some weeks back. At the time I was reading a thrilling series but judging from the excitement with which she talked about this book, I made a mental note to make it my very next read after the series; and it was.

"Keep it in the Family" is a psychological thriller novel by John Marrs. The book centers on a couple who discover meticulously arranged suitcases filled with children's bodies in their new home's attic.
The story blends suspense, murder and very twisted relationships with a mysterious killer narrator behind the scenes who adds chilling depth through flashbacks to a traumatic childhood. This book did go a long way to solidify my theory about people who become serial killers and how they must have faced one traumatic event or something of that sort.
The story follows Mia and Finn, a couple who have finally gotten a place of their own after searching for a long time. The couple decide to renovate the house as the building hasn't been inhabited for decades. During the process of renovation, there's a grim discovery that almost costs Mia her life, and the police are immediately involved.
The police spend so long investigating the discoveries and this automatically means Mia and Finn have to return to Finn's parents house for a while. Mia's in-laws –Debbie and Dave– complicate matters even more.

This story shifts between the past and the present, with the past throwing light on the serial killer's childhood and their motivation behind every murder and the present exploring the perspectives of the different characters.
The tension built up in this novel from lies, deceit and jaw-dropping twists is enough to keep readers at the edge of their seats. I remember trying to guess who the killer was with every new clue that came to light but nothing prepared me for who the killer truly was.
I particularly like how well the author crafts a multi-voiced story that humanises even the worst of characters. The villain's warped yet sympathetic portrayal also stands out, blending repulsion for their horrific deeds with a tinge of heartbreak from their backstory.
I remember sharply exhaling once I finished reading this novel because of how intense it was, especially towards the end. For a psychological thriller, this book actually has a good ending with everything being unraveled; all the secrets come to light. The end not only reveals the truth but also gives readers insight as to what may happen in the future.
If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, dark and sinister novels or books that keep you on your toes, this would be a lovely read for you. I'm grateful this book was recommended to me and as such, I would also like to highly recommend it too. I would give the book a 3.5 out of 5 stars rating.
