A Window Seat Perspective.
Comfort can be a fickle thing. What feels comforting one day may feel stifling the next and I say this from a place of experience. Sometimes, external factors can disrupt our usual sources of comfort but when this happens, the best option is always to adapt.
Ultimately, comfort is something we have the power to create for ourselves. It has less to do with waiting for the perfect situation and more to do with cultivating a mindset that nurtures our well-being.
If I responded to the prompt for this week a few years back, I would outrightly say my mattress is a place that brings me comfort or maybe my entire bedroom. This truth hasn't changed but my perspective has.
My bedroom is without a doubt one place that brings me comfort. After a long day, all I want to do is freshen up and lay on my bed without a care in the world. However, for the purpose of this prompt I'd like to point out yet another place that brings me so much comfort; the cozy chair in the parlour, nestled close to the window.
There is something deeply soothing about sitting there. Aside from the soft fabric and the natural light that filters in, this spot is just simply exceptional. Since I'm one who values staying indoors in the absence of anything important to do outdoors, the window connects me to the outside world without me having to leave the comfort zone. Did I mention that the view from the window is also very astonishing? I live in an urban area, which allows me to observe people going about their family lives, take in the world from a bird's eye perspective and experience it all from the cozy comfort of this chair.
Whenever I sit there (which is 99% of the time), I like to do simple things that nourish my soul like listening to music while working on a crochet project or reading a book. Sometimes, I just sit there quietly, allowing my mind to rest.
This is the same spot where my creativity is usually at its peak. It feels like a gush of ideas floods my mind whenever I'm open to it and subsequently, I make these ideas reality while cozying up in the same spot.
This little cushion spot by the window is my personal refuge. It reminds me to slow down and appreciate small pleasures. It's truly amazing how a simple and quiet corner with familiar textures and a great view can bring such deep comfort.
By tuning into what truly grounds us, whether it's a favourite cushion by the window(like in my case) or resting on one's mattress, we actively shape our own comfort. This is a subtle reminder that we are sole architects of our own comfort.
